I would agree with this assessment. Like the writer, I wish GCU had a jumbotron as well.

I have been to three of the four Texas 4 facilities and overall would agree that Lamar and SFA are the best of them. SFA might be better currently as it is usually filled to a higher percentage than Lamar, but I have also seen Lamar at 60% capacity for a regular season home game and with that number of fans it is a formidable place for visiting teams. The entry tunnels for the teams are directly behind the goals and personally I would prefer seating in that location the tunnels from the corners.

The two largest crowds/fans bases WAC fans will see in the conference reside at GCU and NMSU. In the past, Jans' Aggie teams are desensitized to large hostile crowds. Yearly, NMSU plays the Lobos in the Pit and the Miners in the Haskins Center. Both games typically draw very large crowd. However, this Aggie team has a lot of new personnel. Until NMSU walks into both places and handles the pressure its hard to tell if this Aggie team can be rattled by a fan base.

The WAC Digest arena rankings has less to do with the game atmosphere, attendance, raucous fan base. It's more about the esthetics and amenities of the arena. The Pan American Center is cavernous but has very good acoustics; noise carries well.

Today's fans don't like the PAC multi-colored seating but it was an acceptable design feature for arenas back in the late 1960's. Checkout Utah State's crazy seating colors. Over the course of years, the specified Red, Blue, Yellow sections have become less defined as new red chairback seating has been added to the arena. So, admittedly, the varied seating colors are less attractive now than when the PAC was first built. However, there is an aura around the PAC; as a grand old arena. Many big time games have been played there. And, there are a lot of banners hanging from the rafters denoting special Aggie seasons and coaching and player achievements. A tradition/history money can't buy. Do I think the PAC is the nicest looking arena in the WAC, probably not. The new arenas have more of the bells and whistles. But as I have said, the PAC has an aura about it. NMSU wins over 80% of its games there. So, it's obvious the PAC gives our Aggies a real homecourt advantage.

RE: Top 5 WAC basketball arenas
We are about 5 months away from completion of a major renovation of Moody Coliseum at ACU.
Check out the announcement from nearly two years ago (scroll down to see inside the court area):
https://acusports.com/news/2020/11/12/ge...ember.aspx

Opening game for the new center is late January 2022 apparently. It will be a real cornerstone of the campus and pair up well with the new football stadium called Anthony Field and with the major new Science and Engineering buildings and renovations as as well as the soon to be built Science and Engineering Research Center. The campus is really looking impressive.

The Montagne Center actually has a capacity of about 9600 for basketball not 10700. The new scoreboard is nice but I think reducing capacity and adding luxury suites would really improve the gameplay experience.

I agree, when everybody's upgrades are complete. SFA is pumping about $30 Million into WRJ, including a new floor.

It's all about home winning %. You can have the nicest arena but it you don't win in it, it don't mean anything.

I'm waiting to see the unveiling of the UCCU Center I don't know what amenities they have planned, but it seats about 8500 and was new in 1996. Should be among the top in the conference.

RE: Top 5 WAC basketball arenas
Apparently I spoke too soon. Moody will likely not be opened for a single game during the coming season. The '22 season will open in Moody. The renovation is massive and very expensive. The arena and related facilities will be truly first class and very impressive. But it takes a lot of time to complete the project. I think the WAC will be quite proud of the new Moody Coliseum, I know ACU will be.

Meanwhile games will continue to be played at a secondary site on campus called the Teague Center, where the Wildcats played last year.
