Unofficial 2021-22 Basketball Rosters to date.
The WAC schools should put out a final official basketball roster once the fall semester is well under way. But as of now, these are the players expected to be at each school. The player's specified class could change depending on the NCAA waiver. So nothing is set in stone with the post. To denote new players to a program, I put their put their prior school after their hometown.

RE: Unofficial 2021-22 Basketball Roster to date.
Thanks for putting it all together.

Note: UTRGV has gone to Orange and Gray on everything except the "V" logo itself. See if you can find any dark green or blue on the uniforms....

The dark green and blue were to appease fans of the old UTPA and UTB, respectively. As soon as the mascot controversy settled down, and without any official announcements that I can recall, they quietly started painting over anything green in Edinburg and anything blue in Brownsville. Unless you stumble on some old surplus stuff in a closet, everything is orange and gray now.

They even stuck a reference to orange and gray in the words to the new alma mater, Not that 1 person in a 100 knows the words.

We do still have the statue of the bucking bronc with its butt facing Corpus.

Thanks as this took some effort. Very interesting to check the differences in roster sizes.

RE: Unofficial 2021-22 Basketball Rosters to date.
As of now, the roster are fairly accurate but admittedly, I see a number of deletion and maybe a few addition to some of the rosters in the coming weeks. I know I have left a few player that are most likely no longer at their respective schools. But WAC fans will get the gist of the personnel on each roster.

Per Tarleton Men’s BB Twitter, Javontae Hopkins will be returning to the team this year. He was the only D2 player who finished last season. He originally entered the transfer portal but I guess he didn’t get any options he wanted.

Is Southern Utah listed to get an idea of what they have compared to the rest? If I understand correctly they are still competing in the Big Sky until next July.

It had been nearly a month since I posted those rosters. I have now updated the rosters with the most resent info. Most WAC schools have released their official men's basketball roster; only Tarleton State and Stephen F. Austin remain to release their 2021-22 rosters.

Well I’m glad we’re not the only school without an official roster.

And thanks NMSUPistolPete for the work and info.

Why are some players listed with a designation of GR? Is that because they are a graduate student? Couldn't a grad student still be a junior and have multiple years of eligibility remaining?

Grad student likely because of academic status vs athletic eligibility

New rules in recent years have led to many grad transfers of student athletes who have graduated yet have a year of athletic eligibility left

You also have these “super seniors” who have a fifth or sixth year of eligibility because of the COVID situation

I guess it just means they have completed their four year degree prior to the end of their basketball eligibility. However, normally, according to the NCAA, a player has five years to complete four years of basketball competition. Academically, players have continued to progress through COVID but the NCAA COVID waiver has extended a lot of player's eligibility another year. So it is possible some players might still have a couple years of eligibility remaining despite already completing their four year degree.

Cal Baptist's Elijah Thomas came to the Lancers from St Mary's as a grad transfer a year ago. He is classified as a grad transfer at Cal Baptist again due to the COVID waiver year.

A few years back, UNM's Cullen Neal attended UNM for three years (two full seasons of play, and one Medical RS year after only three games). However Neal managed to graduate early in three years (and summer school) so he transferred to Ole Miss as a Grad transfer where he played immediately. Then, since he still had one more year of eligibility (playing two official seasons at UNM and one season at Ole Miss), he then transferred to St. Mary's as a grad transfer (again) where he played his final season of eligibility.

So it is possible to be considered a grad transfer and still have two years of eligibility.

Exactly. Neal is the perfect example. It is not uncommon for kids to graduate in 3 years. When I see a designation as GR, I don't know if the kid has 1 or 2 years of eligibility remaining.

Looks like BCG cycled threw a bunch of recruiting prospects (committed and gone) to finally settle on this 2021-22 roster. Along with the current new Texans, Aseem Luckey... Tayton Conerway... Terrance Jones... Ja’Mais Werts... Lloyer Driggs... Isaiah Bujdoso... Kawanise Wilkins... Eddie Davis III also committed to Tarleton over the off season but appear to have missed the cut or moved on to other schools.

Did a little googling to see where some folks are located:

Aseem Luckey is back at Grayson College.

Lloyer Diggs I think is still at Tarleton but not playing. Here’s tweet from him back in July
For those who don’t know I had surgery on my groin and had 2 oversized lymph nodes removed to have biopsied. Now I’m headed into my 2nd surgery because my leg isn’t healing correctly and the doctors are saying my leg swelling may never go down. I’d really appreciate your prayers

You do know the tweet about the surgery was from Lloyer Diggs. It’s him with the issues and not me.
