Miami probably was one of the best in the MAC for the first 5 years, then one of the worst in all FBS for next 10.

It really is so strange to see Miami down for so many years. There is such a strong and well-established history of Miami being such a good program. It really does just go to show, it's hard to establish staying power in the MAC now. We can't continue to punch above our weight class due to similar sized low budgets. Any time a good MAC coach does well they just get hired away by a P5 and the cycle starts all over. A MAC school can make one bad hire and then face years of a rebuild.

Toledo and NIU have been fortunate to have such long periods of success since 2000. But now even we are rebuilding due to Rod Carey's inability to recruit and develop players on offense. He could but together pretty good defenses but his career experience was offense and he failed at developing that side of the ball.

You can put it pretty square on our awful ex-AD (and can get into more detail), but yeah the overall point remains.
