I'm sure FOX and ESPN will be willing to renegotiate the conference games down from 9 to 8, for a cut in pay of course.

And if ESPN feels this Alliance is aimed at them, as some media reports indicate, they might be inclined to drive a hard bargain.

Just another set up issue to complain about if ESPN says no, and why shouldn't they say no since the bottom half of each conference playing each other is less compelling than one of them having a shot at upsetting a conference front runner for the conference title.

Who cares, their bluff has been called before. Not everyone is as intimidated by ESPN as you make it sound. There are many NEW options available.

This sounds like Pac 12 wants to do this, not the Big 10. And the ACC is already at 8 + ND.

Not for the ACC, though. They're tied 100% to ESPN for the next 10+ years.

ACC is already at 8. BIG 10 and PAC 12 have new contracts they coming up so 8 can be the base for those new deals

Exactly ... just because conference board discussion can spin up a new future for college sports in the mid 2030's in a day or two of banter doesn't mean the actual DOING of it can ever go faster than a year at a time.

1. First see about getting the CCG partially deregulated as part of the big NCAA governance reshuffle coming up. Allow a Top Two CCG as long every school plays over half of the schools in the conference.

2. Then with the door open to divisionless 3 rivals + two on / two off scheduling for the ACC and Big Ten, 5 rivals and two on / two off scheduling for the PAC12, the Big Ten negotiates an 8 conference game, 3 "P5" OOC, no FCS deal.

3. Then with the Big Ten having set the standard, the PAC12 negotiates the same.

4. Then the ACC goes to ESPN, "we can give you 11 P5 per year, but you have got to give us something to make it worth our while".
