RE: The next dominoes to fall
You could very well see the Big 12 take Cincy and Houston and that would be it.

What incentive does the AAC have to go big?

All these 12 team conferences were established because 12 was the magic number to get the CCG and the extra TV money that came with it

Now since that is no longer the case 9-10 team conferences work so much better....see the Sunbelt

Big 12 has a better brand than the AAC. UConn is happy in the Big East.

Schools like Houston and Cincy would rather play Baylor and Oklahoma State than Temple and USF.

This is simply not true...

Of course it's true. Do you think our Houston alum state senator was campaigning for a Houston invite at the B12 Texas Senate hearing because UH doesnt want into the Big12? C'mon now.

Yup. To play these teams in football AND hoops every year would be a boon to our scheduling and fan interests...

RE: The next dominoes to fall
I’d be surprised if they add beyond UC Houston. I think BYU gets the call before Houston. These are some of the stingiest presidents we’ve seen as far as prioritizing short term growth. If BYU is in, they MIGHT consider 12. Just not sure they want to stretch with UCF BYU AND WVU in the same conference, so 12th team could be Memphis. SMU followed by CSU would be my dark horses, but I think it’s UC Houston invites by year end.

Yup

Cincy bridges the gap to WVU and is a solid overall sports program

Houston help keep a strong Texas flank and still leaves the Big 12 in a decent position in Texas despite not having UT or A&M

SEC, B1G, Pac-12, ACC all stand pat.

Big 12 (no longer power conference-therefore no BYU) adds:

Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, and UCF

American adds 7 schools from Mountain West:

East: ECU, Navy, SMU, USF, Temple, Tulsa, Tulane
West: Air Force, Colorado State, Boise State, New Mexico, Nevada, UNLV, SDSU

Mountain West adds 5 schools from C-USA and 1 from Sun Belt and 1 independent:

West: Utah State, Wyoming, Fresno State, San Jose State, Hawaii, NMSU
East: Rice, UTEP, UTSA, North Texas, LaTech, Texas State

MAC adds 2 schools from C-USA:

West: CMU, WMU, EMU, NIU, Toledo, Ball State, WKU
East: Akron, Bowling Green, Buffalo, Kent State, Miami, Ohio, Marshall

C-USA adds 7 schools from Sun Belt:

West: UAB, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Louisiana, MTSU, Troy, Charlotte
East: FAU, FIU, ODU, CCU, App State, Georgia Southern, Georgia State

Independents include:

Notre Dame, BYU, UConn, Army, UMass, Liberty, South Alabama, UL Monroe

The Sun Belt dissolves as it is down to 4 Olympic members and 2 football members.

CUSA???? Why would we do that?

I still think Cincinnati and Houston get in. Though I still think 12 is the best option. While you may lose money for #11 and 12 I feel it could widen the gap between the remaining Big 12 and the next best G5. It would leave the MWC as the marquee G5 conference and that can serve as decent matchups for the PAC 12 and the Big 12.

Love visiting the board. It's like the AAC is actually paying the posters here. No other reason makes sense for the blatant sycophantic behavior.

I'm amending this.

I now think the Big 12 will add only two to get to ten: Cincy and Houston.

The American responds by adding Rice, and everybody else stands pat.

UConn left in no small part because of the ESPN OTT deal and the erosion of its basketball fan base playing AAC schools it shared nothing with.

With its CBS Sports deal, UConn football will get more over the air visibility than it would ever get in the AAC, and Fox Sports is all set to send UConn basketball skyward.

The Sun Belt dissolves as it is down to 4 Olympic members and 2 football members.

1. Texas State might consider that conference but they seem happy in the Sun Belt.

2. There is no way that Marshall returns to the MAC and I doubt WKU would go unless the CUSA fell apart, Sun Belt wasn't an option, and they couldn't go Indy/A-10 or something.

3. ODU and Charlotte probably do the above and lobby for Indy/A-10 status or some other olympic conference.

4. Sun Belt would probably toss out invites to USM, UAB, and Marshall to go to 12 if Texas State left.

5. MTSU, WKU, FAU, FIU, Charlotte, and ODU could stay together and invite JMU and one other to get to 8 and remain a conference together. Maybe UAB stays.
