Covid Policies for Drexel Athletics
Just wanted to get some of your thoughts on whether Drexel will or should require masks and/or proof of vaccination to attend games this year. I have a gut sense that masks will be required to attend games as trying to enforce vaccinations seems like a daunting task. Since the DAC is a small, indoor venue, they're going to want to do all they can to keep the players and staff safe. We still haven't received any ticket information for the upcoming season. Usually ST deposits are due by August. I'm sure they're waiting for the schedule to come out first.

RE: Thoughts on mask or vaccination requirements for fans at the DAC
It will follow whatever the policy will be for students in indoor buildings. I dont see it differing from whatever their policy is on it. Based on many states and businesses going back to requiring it, I would expect them to be required. But November is also a long time away to know what the situation will be then vs today

RE: Thoughts on mask or vaccination requirements for fans at the DAC
yeah...like dan said...it's still a week by week ordeal and probably will be for a while to see where things stand.

i'm all set with penn state football season tickets and if the first game was tomorrow i would think it's a terrible idea to put 107,000 people in beaver stadium. the ad said saturday you have to wear a mask indoors...which is a cop out because that's essentially just the bathrooms and suites (which are probably the safest place to be). i've been struggling with whether i should just try to start selling them off especially the auburn game. my fear is they're just going to push forward even if cases are still going up in 3 weeks.

i thought the saints set a good example by requiring a negative test or proof of vaccine. if the fall is a disaster with football...we can forget about going to see drexel basketball at least until this wave ends.

just when you think this is going to get easier...it just gets harder. i thought in may/june we were behind the defense a bit and we wouldn't be worried about these things. if anything things are getting more complicated because people are more resistant to doing anything. last year they were demanding to be in school. this year there's really no debate that kids need to be in school...but they're still freaking about kids having to wear masks. it's amazing how it's a 50/50 split like it is with everything else and i have no idea how to reverse it. i've been trying one office visit at a time.

Rider released their spectator policy for the upcoming season. As of now, fans will be permitted at full capacity at all indoor and outdoor events. But external spectators must sign a liability waiver and submit it at the event, and masks will be required.

RE: Thoughts on mask or vaccination requirements for fans at the DAC
i think the trend is going to be towards negative tests or proof of vaccination. seems like a middle ground. people will still whine about it...like one of my lsu fans who went to the saints game last night. he's wrong, i'm tired of it, and if he doesn't get it then he can stay home.

we have jonas brothers tickets for late september and they're requiring this. just found out today. now i just need to establish my comfort level for whether this seems good enough.

Princeton posted their policy for indoor sporting events and it's extremely rigid. They have a no-exception vaccine policy and they're not letting children 12 and under attend at all. They also are requiring masks.

Drexel Athletics posted their new visitor plan, and it's going to require all fans attending games who are not students or employees to download a Drexel Health Checker App and will be required to get the app scanned when attending all games.

Rider has their own version of a similar app and I'm sure that each school will probably have something similar. My prediction is that these app requirements will not go well, and most athletic venues will stop using them by December. It's a tough job to get hundreds or thousands of people into a venue in a short period of time. Security has to check bags, tickets need to be scanned, and now there's another step. I just anticipate too many problems trying to enforce it. I don't think it will happen at a place like Drexel, but it's only a matter of time until fist fights or even worse start happening around the country when people are denied admission to events that they have tickets to.

A small drawing school like Drexel is probably fine, but I agree itll cause issues, even if people agreed to those terms when buying the tickets. Most folks dont intentionally seek out more highly specific apps that take up space on their phones. Enforcement is pretty easy though, you either comply or you dont. But for schools doing this, they would be best served reminding people in emails and newsletters well in advance, possibly even print them on the tickets to attempt to limit issues.

The App really isn't bad to complete. I had to do it for each game i worked last year and can be completed up to 24 hours in advance. You get a text or email back that has the green pass that you show at the ticket booth. Show that and your ticket and you're good to go.

RE: Thoughts on mask or vaccination requirements for fans at the DAC
Correction to my previous post....

I downloaded the Health Checker App, and apparently the app is just for students and employees, which is why Timer, you had access to it when working the games. I tried to get an account, but it told me that I'm not longer connected to the university so I can't. There's another link, that's not part of the app called "Drexel Visitor Pass" which your supposed to fill out within 24 hours of visiting campus, including sporting events. This seems to be more of a pain to do, so hopefully they're figuring out a way to streamline it.

If they want to get it right, there should be a way to include the Covid related questions and possibly a vaccine card upload in the Drexel Tickets app, and then all you would have to do is get your ticket scanned and that's it. Unfortunately, I don't see it becoming that easy.

RE: Thoughts on mask or vaccination requirements for fans at the DAC
the only thing i've been to so far was that required proof of vaccine or negative test was the jonas brothers concert at hersheypark stadium. we just showed our vaccination cards with the tickets. easy to fake but it's better than nothing.

some of the races i've been running have had these requirements. i had to upload a photo of my card to some web site for the broad street run this weekend. it would be hard to do this for something other than a one time only event. showing at the gate seems like the only way it can work for sports teams. people will find excuses to say they couldn't use an app/web site, aren't smart enough to use them, or a combination of the two.

RE: Thoughts on mask or vaccination requirements for fans at the DAC
It just seems like overkill to me to require proof of vax, especially if masks are required. If somebody refuses to get vaccinated but really wants to attend an event, they'll get a forged card. Nobody is going to jail doing something like this, so it just seems like way too much work for something that's really not a deterrent. In the end, the anti-vaxx people are more likely to be the ones who will suffer the consequences.

RE: Covid Policies for Drexel Athletics
Bringing this thread up again with a name change.

https://drexeldragons.com/news/2021/10/1...olicy.aspx

So Drexel Athletics has changed their policies which are posted on the link above to supposedly be in accordance with Philadelphia's new rules.
The concession stands are now closed and the reason for no longer selling food or beverages is because proof of vaccination is now required at venues that sell food. But then below it states that in addition to filling out the Drexel Visitor Pass, which asks you if you are vaccinated, you need to show proof of vaccination at the door.

It also states that masks are required REGARDLESS of Vaccination Status. But then states that you need to be vaccinated to attend.

So if you have to show proof of vaccination at the door AND fill out the visitor pass, then WHY would they not sell food? Crazy mess up world we live in these days.

i know you're not this type...but it reminds me of all the things i read where people are just looking for something to complain about related to these types of requirements.

if being able to buy food is going to make or break your experience at a drexel basketball game...you're probably going for the wrong reasons. i remember crying at our first game back last winter...bears vs phantoms at the giant center...because i was just happy to be there.

we go to dozens of games/races a year and i'd have to really take time to think when the last time was that we bought concessions. probably at port royal speedway for their labor day race...but it was the lutheran church stand right outside the track where the juniata county fair was going on. i don't like getting ripped off especially for crappy food which is basically what concession stands at sporting events amount to.

Obviously I don't go to Drexel basketball games for the food. The food is terrible anyway, but I will give Drexel credit for not gouging on prices.

I was pointing out the hypocrisy of their statement. They don't want to serve food, because if they serve food, they must require proof of vaccinations. Then they say that they're requiring proof of vaccinations anyway. So if they're requiring proof of vaccinations, why not serve food? This decision was obviously based on money and not health. The Wells Fargo Center makes a ton of money off of food and drink, so they're going to continue to sell food and drinks at their events and ask for proof of vaccination. For Drexel Athletics, selling food is probably more of a burden than a money maker so they're going to use it as an excuse not to sell food. Trust me, if Drexel made money off of their food, you bet they would continue to sell it.

Things are changing so quickly, no doubt they're trying to keep up and perhaps the continuity checking of all the text hasn't taken place.

i don't know. this isn't a hill i would want to die on if i'm trying to prove somebody's hypocrisy. especially at the risk of sounding like a covidiot who just wants to complain about minor inconveniences/issues. you could argue there is hypocrisy in acting like you care about safety in the pandemic while going to indoor gatherings (hey...that's me!). these days everybody is looking for the hypocrisy or inconsistencies in everything...and i'm just thankful for the opportunity to go to these games...which unfortunately may change in the coming weeks.

like i said...i know you're not one of those...and i also know i'm probably going to be more sensitive about these things than some people...so i will digress.

RE: Covid Policies for Drexel Athletics
Our ticket rep sent out an email today about the new policies at the DAC. While he mentioned that food and drink won't be sold, it didn't state anything about vaccination status, other than stating that masks are required regardless of vaccination status. So I think what this means is that they WON'T be checking vaccination cards, and that as Timer mentioned above, the entire policy just wasn't updated properly. That clears things up a bit. I think that you need to be vaccinated anyway since that's a question in the Drexel Health Check, it's just that they're basically taking your word for it.

RE: Covid Policies for Drexel Athletics
what are the chances we're ready for the games next weekend to start conference play...and will they be forfeits if we can't play?

i just saw the cfp in football might force forfeits. i'm not going to cry if any of those teams don't win because of that. my first thought was how many forfeits we would need to get down to penn state-arkansas in the outback bowl for the national title. i don't think forcing a forfeit is the right way to go though. we're so careful about not punishing people for going unvaccinated yet we punish people who (hopefully) are trying to do the right things? if there's an investigation that shows negligence then i'm ok with it...but a blanket policy doesn't seem right.
