Expanding the B12
Here’s the adds:

1) Cincinnati
2) Memphis
3) 3 of: Tulane, Tulsa, SMU, Houston
4) 3 of: UNM, CSU, BYU, Boise St.

How would the American and MWC rebound?

Isn’t 8 too small for CCG? Even if it isn’t, they’re vulnerable to vultures.

They can still have a CCG with 8 the requirement to have 12 went away. I think 8 is also the min one needs to be a FBS conference so they can just do nothing for now. I think that is unwise but folks are usually reactive and not proactive.

JMO, but if I were them I would pick the top 4-6 G5s and call it a day. The L8+Top4-6 G5s is easily still the 5th best conference by a longshot and may even be a top 4 BB conf.

if its only 4: Cinci/Memphis/Houston/UCF

If its only 6: Cinci/Memphis/Houston/UCF/BSU/SDSU

No BYU because I think they'll stick with INDY unless one of the new Big4 comes calling.

BCS, 3 points:

1) This is the ENTIRE point of this board
2) NOBODY forces you to read my posts
2) It’s the off-season, need SOMETHING to talk about

UTEP is quite the hot commodity here I see.

(edit: I do know this is for different scenarios, but I liked to think of the even funnier scenario where the AAC added UTEP and then the MWC went "wait no, **** that" and added UTEP to spite the AAC)

RE: Expanding the B12
1. Cincinatti, the only sure thing, they should probably add them now to give some balast to WV
2. Memphis or Houston: Memphis is a new market/encroachment on SEC (the way Cinci encroaches on B1G) and geographically sound.
If they go beyond 10:
3. Houston or Memphis: For a 12 team conf they will want Houston.
4. UCF or BYU: Completely new territory for eyeballs and recruitment in UCF. Convinved BYU will hold out.
If they go to 14:
5. BYU:
6. Colorado St or USF: If BYU is on board, they will give them a travel partner in Co St, if not, they will add USF to go with UC
If no BYU:
7.
SMU: they are already in Dallas, but hard to argue SMUs history, academics, geography and endowment
Rice: if TCU doesn't want them in Dallas metro, could be a nice add for academics and endowment (see Vanderbilt)
Louisiana: the Ragin' Cajuns are in SEC country, prime recruiting territory and are ranked coming into next year. They will be invited before Tulane.
Temple: if we're going East, would be a big add for eyeballs and new territory - maybe a tad too far geographically
San Diego St: even with Okie St in terms of qualifiers, better in terms of new market eyeballs and recruitment territory, like Temple, probably too far
No:
Tulane, Boise St (too far, not enough eyeballs)

My rank-ordering:

1) BYU
2) Cincy
3) Houston
4) UCF, Memphis, USF, CSU, Boise

As for the AAC response, I think the major candidates are:

1) App State
2) Georgia State
3) UAB

Of course, it could depend on who is lost. E.g., if a Florida school goes, then FAU becomes more likely as a backfill.

I want the old SWC back. Forget Fla…

UC Houston, SMU & Rice. If they want 14, CSU BYU.

Adding 2 would be pretty short sighted. That is thinking too small.

Add only 4: UC, UCF, Memphis, Houston (top 4 overall sports programs in AAC). These programs deserve it and act/spend like Power 5 Schools. These should be a given...but I am sure they will mess it up.

Add 6: Add Colorado State and BYU (BYU could obviously be higher but I not quite sure it will happen. If you think backlash was bad in 2016. Try 2021 culture).

Add 8: Add SMU and Boise.

Those are the most deserving programs based on programs and performance. Would truly be a best of the rest conference. I would go big and go to 16. Make a splash and then can weather the storm easily if more movement happens. These are best athletic programs in G5 that are realistic. Add some great big city markets and programs. TV $$ would be favorable.

RE: Expanding the B12
I believe their media rights expire the same time the GOR does. It will never happen but I’d take a shot at trying to entice several football first powers from the ACC and PAC 12 to form the first 20 team super league. You’d have a lot of obstacles to overcome like the ACC GOR but I imagine this conference could fetch a pretty penny on the open market. Maybe pretty enough to get them all on board.

Big 20:

East: WVU, UofL, Pitt, VT, Miami
South: FSU, Clemson, Baylor, TCU, TTech
Midwest: KU, KSU, Ok St, ISU, Colorado
West: USC, Cal, Stanford, UCLA, Oregon

Go 10 conference games. Play your pod and 2 from each other. Good rivalries here, good recruiting grounds and markets, football first but not shabby in hoops and olympics. Decent travel. Games from 9am to midnight on the east coast.

2-4 Max. No way they go to 14 or 16. That would torpedo their next media deal. Theyre already going to get a big haircut. They need to go east! BYU probably a no go and Boise is too far.l
