By the way, why in the world is Chicago State contracting a minimum of 5 Football games to FLO starting in 2022-2023?

Good question. Maybe its for a new flag football league. I seriously doubt they are adding football on their shoestring budget.

Maybe they’re planning to join the MSFL?

That would be obtainable and pretty cool.

Matt Brown…

Multiple sources told me that they expect the WAC to officially announce a new media rights deal with ESPN+ in the very near future. Not every AD in the league initially supported the move, but I was told that eventually, the vote to move in that direction was unanimous.

It would really be nice to know how much money each school is making and how long the contract lasts.

Usually if it’s not mentioned, it’s not significant.

RE: Report: ESPN Signs Agreement with WAC
I am more curious about the games on linear ESPN.

Some of the other FCS leagues announced varying amounts of games for both football and hoops on linear ESPN. Would be nice if we learned that at minimum that the WAC will get X amount of football, men's basketball and/or women's basketball on linear ESPN platforms.

ACU produces most of their own coverage, as well as provide the announcers through ACU TV. I am used to ESPN+, and it has been good for ease of watching PLUS exposer. I am interested to see what happens with the WAC Digital Network

GCU put out a similar statement today and we also produce most of our own coverage. However, it looks like all that coverage can now only be seen via ESPN+.
Here is the relevant quote from the article, "The exclusivity of the agreement means GCU events will no longer be streamed on YouTube, GCULopes.com or the WAC Digital Network. Select GCU events, including all home men's basketball games, will continue to be broadcast on local television."

ESPN+ is easy and affordable. I kinda hesitated at first when we started going with them, but it has been worth it.

How long do the games stay on ESPN+? Do you have to watch them live? One thing I liked about GCU's own program was that I could watch whenever I wanted. Even now I can go back to games from last year and watch them again.

They’re on there for a few months and no, you do not have to watch them live.

I do wish they were on there longer, but some of the games I can still pull up on Youtube later.

I'm pretty sure the NMSU/GCU game will be picked up by ESPN2 or ESPNU.

RE: Report: ESPN Signs Agreement with WAC
Good move by the WAC and the fans will greatly benefit. ESPN+ is all about accessibility for the fringe/casual fans and increase in production quality.

I tuned in to one of our women's soccer games on ESPN+ and the production quality was noticeably improved. Multiple camera angles, with zoomed in views on the action depending on the situation. A far cry from the old days of just some student with a 1990's era video camera following the action for the game broadcast.

The schools are responsible in most cases for the broadcast quality, so it has nothing to do with ESPN outside of the requirements, specs that ESPN requests of the school(s) and their commitment to meeting them.

RE: Report: ESPN Signs Agreement with WAC
Update. Four year deal.

WAC FOOTBALL ON ESPN
As part of an expanded multi-year, multi-platform media rights agreement announced on Aug. 24, all home football games in the WAC for the next four years will reside on ESPN platforms. In addition, all home men's and women's basketball, as well as other select events, will be housed on ESPN digital platforms.
