Bruce Feldman’s 2021 college football Freaks List
Quite a few MAC players on this list.
https://theathletic.com/2758595/2021/08/...eaks-list/
Quote:26. Bernhard Raimann, Central Michigan, offensive tackle
He started playing football in Austria for the Vienna Vikings program when he was 14 and displayed soft hands and great length for the Austrian U-19 team before moving to Michigan in a year-long high school exchange program. Central Michigan took note of his near 6-7 frame and his athleticism. He caught 20 passes in his first two seasons before being shifted to the O-line, where he’s continued to pack on bulk. Raimann is definitely on the NFL’s radar. Scouts are intrigued. He’s up to 304 pounds but ran a 4.60 shuttle with a 33-inch vertical and a 9-7 1/2 broad jump and a 1.56 10-yard sprint to go with a 450-pound bench press. Raimann has a 3.80 GPA as an Actuarial Science & Statistics double major. On the field, he’s spent a bunch of time in the offseason working with renowned NFL line coach Paul Alexander to polish his game.
Quote:48. Tycen Anderson, Toledo, safety
NFL personnel folks are very excited about this dude because he is really long — they’ve verified that he has 33-inch arms — and is physical with great ball skills. He was banged up last season but is primed for a huge 2021. He was all over the field in the spring and had coaches seeing him as their Spider-Man. The 6-2 ½, 208-pounder vertical jumped 38 inches and clocked a 4.45 40 in front of NFL scouts.
Quote:61. Bubba Arslanian, Akron, inside linebacker
“Bubbalicious” is a 5-10, 217-pound tackling machine. In the past two seasons, in just 18 games, he’s wracked up 199 tackles for the Zips. Not bad for a guy who showed up as a walk-on. A former high school standout wrestler and catcher, Arslanian has squatted 585 pounds — for five reps. He’s benched 455. He’s also vertical jumped 35 inches, run a 4.6 40 with a 10-yard split of 1.53 and did the 3-cone in 6.90 seconds. Bubba is MACtion.
Quote:70. Dominique Robinson, Miami-Ohio, defensive end
He was a high school quarterback in Ohio who spent his first three seasons in the MAC playing wide receiver, catching 27 passes for 452 yards and four touchdowns. Last season, Robinson moved to the D-line and had nine tackles, 2.5 TFLs and two sacks in three games. He’s grown to over 6-4, 256 pounds, has an 82.5-inch wingspan, bench presses 350; vertical jumped 34 inches and clocked a 4.62 40. His 4.31 pro agility time also is excellent.
Quote:78. A.J. Thomas, Western Michigan, linebacker
The 6-2, 220-pounder is agile enough that he started a couple of games at cornerback last season, along with four others at safety. He is the Swiss Army knife of Western Michigan’s defense. Thomas, who arrived at 175 pounds, led the team with nine TFLs using his 4.57 40-speed to make a lot of big plays. He’s also clocked a 4.3 shuttle time along with 10-0 broad jump and he squats 545, but the Broncos strength coach thinks Thomas could probably get close to 600 pounds if he didn’t cut him off.
Quote:82. Jaylen Hall, Western Michigan, wide receiver
The Broncos have had a few blazers the past couple of years in LeVante Bellamy and D’Wayne Eskridge, Hall is longer at 6-3, 185 and probably doesn’t have the same burst off the line but has similar top-end speed. Hall clocked a 4.32 40 a year ago. His broad jump this offseason was 10-7, and he ran a 4.10 in the pro agility shuttle. On the field, that athleticism translated into a number of big plays. Hall caught 12 passes in 2020, but they went for 323 yards and seven touchdowns.
Quote:92. Clint Ratkovich, Northern Illinois, tight end/fullback
A transfer from Western Illinois, head coach Thomas Hammock compares him to San Francisco 49ers fullback Kyle Juszczyk. The “Ratdog” caught 111 passes for 1,060 yards in his last two seasons of action in FCS (2018 and 2019). The 6-1, 225-pounder came to NIU this winter and squatted more weight (607 pounds) than anyone else on the team. He also benched 409 to go with a vertical jump of 34.5 inches and laser timed in the 40 at 4.73 seconds.
Quote:99. Justin Hall, Ball State, wide receiver
The FBS career receptions leader with 257, Hall is super strong for 5-9, 186 pounds. He back squats 500 pounds (2.6 times his body weight) and power cleans 305. He broad jumps 10-2 and vertical jumps 36 inches, although his leaping ability is best evidenced by this clip of him hurdling two players.
