Preparing for Navy's offense is difficult. Navy is only a three point underdog despite a disappointing season last year.

Triple option teams are at a disadvantage in two situations: 1) the first game of the season 2) bowl games. Marshall has had all off-season to look at the peculiar offenses they will face and have likely been looking at Navy's offense in earnest for the past two weeks.

On a short week or the week after a physical game, the opponent is at a disadvantage. As an App State fan, I'm very familiar with this considering the SoCon had three true option teams and App has dealt with Georgia Southern on a short week every since joining the Sun Belt.

Again, it's all dependent on what Marshall brings back this year. Their Mike and defensive ends were the best I've seen App play since joining FBS, except for Clemson. It isn't really surprising considering they were both transfers from P5 schools but I read somewhere that the Mike had run a legit 4.4 and he could cover everywhere and stick em in the run game.

If that guy is gone, and they don't have anyone to replace him, it may be more difficult. Either way, considering Marshall's prowess on defense usually continues year to year, and the length of time they have had to prepare, I was surprised to see so many people picking Navy.

Maybe the Mike you developed a crush on was why Neal was only second in tackles and is now gone. I think the DE you liked was Hodges who has moved on to Sundays. There are Herd fans lurking on here, maybe they'll correct me.

Counterpoint to your theory -- if they are game planning off of 2020 Navy tape, that is advantage Navy. Ken and Ivin have the counters to every move, and this year they had a Spring and actual contact to have the team ready to execute. Meanwhile we have tape on Marshall 2020.

Navy's triple option -- when we haven't hamstrung ourselves with zero spring ball and no contact in fall camp -- is a very different thing from Georgia Southern.
