Something different
Going to see something different this weekend at IMS as the NASCAR Cup and Xfinity series will share the track with the NTT Indycar series.

The idea of a shared NASCAR/Indy Car doubleheader has been floating around racing forums for years but it was never seriously considered by the series.

But since Penske purchased the IMS and the Indy Car Series he took a look at the idea and has decided that it was worth a try.

All it took was getting NASCAR to change their annual race at IMS from the oval to the road course.

After drug issues took Brian France out of the top spot in NASCAR and Jim France took over the idea became a possibility giving Jim Frances long history with sports car racing.

Under his control, the series has already added several road course events. And the next generation Cup car has a lot of sports car influence in it. Single lung wheels, independent rear suspension, fueling rigs in place of gas cans, and the plan to change to hybrid engines in near future.
