But I’ll give you this much you seem like one of the more rational LTU posters so let me ask you to weigh in on the questions being brought up here. Basically, we have some on your side trying to dismiss all that UL has accomplished over the last 3 years by saying it’s all due to COVID ‘luck.’ Our point is that beginning in 2008 but really gaining steam in the 2017 hires or Maggard and Napier, the extreme measures to increase their salaries to the top level of all G5 schools, etc., our future looks very bright. And for those who say that we will somehow fall off a cliff once Napier moves on, that’s just plain nuts. The commitment our current leaders have shown will not be going away. And you can bet Napier will be a major voice in picking his successor so we worry not one bit about that transition. Esp when you consider where we will be if/when Napier achieves his goals here.
The China virus impacted 2020, and that is all. It might, with the latest variant(s), impact 2021 as well, but so far everyone remains on a level playing field. For anyone to remotely state that 2020 was anywhere close to a normal year is ludicrous. But, as it was, some schools handled it better than others. Some of that was good management and some was just dumb luck.
For us it was a tough year. It was gonna be a challenging year even without the virus mess as it was a rebuilding year and Tech was gonna struggle. As it was things went from bad to worse...a perfect storm...with regular football-related injuries contributing to the revolving door of those available to play. The OL was particularly hard hit. Seems like, as I recall, we had 5 walk-ons on the field at the same time and they didn't hold up very well.
I don't believe ANY team that enjoyed success last year did so solely on other teams' woes with the China virus. The teams that had good to great seasons did so because they had the pieces in place going in. They were gonna have good years even if the virus had not appeared.
I posted elsewhere, and will repeat it here, I think it is inevitable that Tech and ULL will end up in the same conference, again. Can't say what conference that will be, but heck, conference affiliation has been a revolving door for decades and that has only accelerated recently. I have also said I have no problem being in a conference with ULL...it is ULM I don't want to be with.
Well thanks for that very rational post. Truly refreshing. I agree with you with the vast majority of it but do want to point out that I don’t think anyone, least of all me, would consider 2020 a ‘normal’ year because it certainly was not. Sorry if I had not made that clearer in my earlier posts. But the way you summarized it was spot on, and exactly the point I was trying to make in that those trying to minimize those that did well last year are doing nothing but trying to sweep the real shortcomings of their own team under the proverbial rug.
I too agree as do I think most folks think these days that a complete re-shuffle of G5’s is inevitable. What happens to ULM will largely be decided in the next year or 2. I personally think they will hang in there, and would welcome that, but we shall see.

I've always had a lot of respect for ULL, ArkSt, and USA and they're programs but I have no real interest in being in the same conference with AppST, Ga Southern or Troy at the same time. Maybe one or two but not all three. Just too many schools with horrendous basketball for my tastes and it'd drag down the conference basketball potential.
