RE: UT Soccer: 2021
Rocket's soccer season got a quick dose of reality last week, as they lost again, this time @ OU, 1-0. Rockets had more shots, and more shots on goal. UT had 2 or 3 A+ chances, but as has been typical, could not finish. Despite the shot advantage, OU pressed UT constantly, and the defense gave up a number of corners and free kicks. Eventually, OU got the winner off a scramble after a corner, as the ball appeared to just barely trickle across the line.

UT is 2-2 in the MAC, which is tied for 7th place. It doesn't get any easier, as the Rockets play @ 3-1 Miami, and then back home against 2-1-1 Ball State.

Rockets lose again @ Miami 3-1. So much for what appeared to be a promising season.

RE: UT Soccer: 2021
Bizarre game at Hotmer today, as the Rockets ended their losing streak with a 2-1 victory over Ball State.

BSU was by far the better team all day. They are so much more skilled, and better coached, and UT was on their heals most of the game. Rockets kept it scoreless at the half, and most of the 2nd, but the BSU pressure kept building, and after they had already missed a couple really good opportunities to take the lead, a complete defensive breakdown allowed BSU an easy goal with only 7 minutes left in the game. 1-0 BSU, and it seemed another loss was assured.

But no. Less than a minute later, Claire Cahalan launched a shot in complete desperation from literally 35-40 yards away that by some miracle found the very top corner of the net, over the outstretched arms of the BSU keeper. Tied up again 1-1 with about 6 minutes left. Overtime now seemed assured and who knew if the Rockets had enough to withstand another 20 minutes of pressure. But no again. With less than 4 minutes left, Olivia Dault launched a through ball that skittered just perfectly past 3 BSU defenders and allowed Stitch Currie to run onto it and bury a shot into the bottom corner. Rockets win 2-1. Two goals in about 2 minutes, after having maybe 1 really good opportunity all game before that. I would not have believed it if it wasn't streamed.

Rockets are 3-3 in MAC play now, which I think puts them in 7th place at the moment. Next week they get CMU at home, and EMU in Ypsi.

Rockets defeat CMU 1-0 at Hotmer, to go to 4-3 in the MAC.

Game was a pretty even back and forth affair, although CMU failed to convert on two A+ chances in the 1st half. Rockets broke through early in period 2, as SO Ellie Pool picked up a deflected shot by Mojo Medalle and finished it on the short side. Rocket D clamped down on CMU the rest of the game.

Rockets on the road Sunday at Ypsi. EMU is 1-4-1, and trailing BG 1-0 at the half tonight.

No stream today, but the Rockets finished in a 1-1 tie with EMU. Looks like the Rockets were leading 1-0 when they gave up a very late goal to result in the tie.

UT now 4-3-1 in the MAC and I think will stay in 5th place. Next week they get Akron at home, and then take the long trip to NY to face a tough Buffalo team.

RE: UT Soccer: 2021
Rockets beat last place Akron 2-0 at Hotmer tonight. Honestly, Akron was the better team for the vast majority of the game, but could not get any good finishing chances. Olivia Dault scored her 6th of the season, on a nice shot in the 1st, and Grace Turski added one on a nice header off a corner from Claire Cahalan. Cahalan was miraculously back in the game after taking a loose elbow to the face from one of the UA players. She was down for a while in a lot of pain, and clearly was cut below the eye, but came back in later and made the key play.

Rockets stay in 5th place at 5-3-1 as Buffalo, who is 1 point ahead of them beat BG 1-0. And the scheduling gods dictated that UT finish the season off against those very two teams, both on the road. Two wins, and UT could finish 3rd, I think. Two losses, and the Rockets need help to get in the tourney (only 6 teams make the post-season in this new era of the MAC.)

RE: UT Soccer: 2021
Rockets come away with a 0-0 tie at Buffalo, which didn't help them at all. I think they will stay in 5th with 1 game to play (6 teams make the tourney.)

Buffalo is way, way, way, way more skilled than UT, but UT just played a blanket defense with everyone back most all the game, and the few good opportunities UB got they could not finish. Shots were 16-4 UB, and it would be generous to call those 4 UT things "shots". But, a tie is better than a loss.

RE: UT Soccer: 2021
Rockets lost a heart-breaker in OT to that school down south 1-0 to end the season at 5-4-2 in the MAC and 10-5-4 overall.
Were not a lot of opportunities from either side in that part of regulation that I saw, but UT did have a couple good ones. Like usual could not finish tho. In OT, UT seemed to lose focus and gave BG several quick opportunities, one of which they buried for the winner.

Looks like UT will back into the MAC tourney though, as Ball State beat Miami. So, I think UT will get the final slot at #6 and play the 3 seed (TBD still) on the road. That's way better than the 11th place they were predicted to finish in the preseason poll.

15 minutes in, Rockets take a 1-0 lead. Olivia Dault heads ahead a pass off a free kick right onto a streaking Ellie Pool who makes no mistake and buries the shot.

And Kent ties it up with a great shot from distance smack into the lower corner.

And Kent goes up 3-2 off a PK on a hand ball in the box. That should do it.

Rockets sign 4, including one from North Carolina. 2 keepers out of the 4.

RE: UT Soccer: 2021
Well, this is interesting. Rockets have apparently gotten a grad transfer in F Morgan Otteson from Western Michigan.
She was 2nd team all-MAC in the 2020 season (played in spring of 2021.) She was also one of the players initially dismissed from the team in summer 2021 as one of the athletes who refused WMU's vaccine mandate (and sued WMU over it), but then (I believe) must have been reinstated, as the stats show she played this past season.

So what's with the athletes from WMU transferring to UT?

Doesn't UT have vaccine mandates?
