ODU is not alone. Many schools have used the CARES act to clear student accounts that had debt. It includes any balances for unpaid tuition or fees. This is not the same as loan cancellation. If a student took a loan to pay their tuition they still have to pay back the loan. But if a student just didn’t pay their tuition they should have been withdrawn for classes so there must have been some special circumstances for these debt to accrue.

ODU probably didn’t drop for non payment, many universities didn’t due to covid

I'd rather maintain a strong credit score than declare bankruptcy.
But then again, the people that can't repay their loans probably already have crappy credit scores. Chalk this up to more money out of our pockets for other people's bad decisions.

People enter financial hardship for a lot more reasons than just bad decisions.
