What about the rest of the Texas FBS schools?

Houston? Probably is the most likely of the remaining Texas FBS schools to be accepted to the Big 12. Now the Big 12 isn't the same as the Big 12 with Texas but it is an upgrade over the AAC and puts them in the same conference as Texas Tech, Baylor, and TCU. So they have absolutely no reason to help Tech, Baylor, and TCU. Keeping the status quo keeps UH at second class status and behind them. Worse case scenario, Houston is still in the AAC but the Big 12 is lower and the other Texas schools are closer to UH than they are now. Maybe UT will play more games vs. UH as opposed to Tech, Baylor, and TCU. Would you rather go to Houston, Waco, or Lubbock?

SMU? Probably has less of a chance to go to the Big 12 because they already have TCU in the Metroplex. But see Houston, at least bring Tech, Baylor, and TCU closer to your level.

Rice? If Houston moves to the Big 12 and the AAC cares about the Houston area and academics and can deal with Rice's poor athletics they might get an upgrade to the AAC (although if the AAC is raided by the Big 12 the AAC could essentially become the new C-USA anyway). I'm not sure athletics/football is as important for Rice to take a side in "Texas vs. Tech/Baylor/TCU".

North Texas, Texas San Antonio, Texas El Paso, Texas State? How much would Texas going to the SEC really affect any of these schools? Do they gain/lose anything if Texas is in the SEC as opposed to the Big 12? Unless any of them are personally hurt by Texas going to the SEC, they have little reason to join in to block the move.

No doubt Texas Tech, Baylor, and TCU have a lot to reason to stop UT. But does any other Texas FBS school? The only schools that gain by UT staying in the Big 12 are the Big 12 schools in Texas.

That’s why my favorite outcome is a Big12 leftovers + AAC merger. It’s got nothing to do with money—-it’s a strictly selfish desire to see a return of some semblance of the SWC with Texas Tech, UH, SMU, TCU, and Baylor all mixing it up every year. I’d absolutely love to see that again each fall. 04-cheers

That's my belief as well. In fact, I think the other Texas schools are better off if Texas leaves, because their status relative to TCU, Baylor and Texas Tech improves.

This is a very good point.

Several other Texas FBS schools may actually end up being better off by moving up the conference ladder (e.g. moving from the AAC to the Big 12, moving from C-USA to the AAC, etc.).

Ripping from the Senate Hearing:

https://www.al.com/sec/2021/08/texas-law...n-tcu.html

"Hartzell explained Texas’ athletic budget was between $220-$225 million per year. Sen. Lois Kolkhorst noted the Longhorns had only won three of the last 10 games against her alma mater, TCU. “Maybe your fanbase would rather lose to Alabama than TCU,” she said."

That was supposed to be an insult? I think every school in America would rather lose to Alabama than TCU (OK, except Auburn of course:)

It was pretty stupid. Its 2-7, not 3-7! And Texas record all time vs. Bama is 7-1-1.
And all time vs. TCU its 63-27-1.

Yes, for some reason Texas gets kind of looked down on as a "blue blood by power and status, not results on the field". But these are some prominent programs from across the country Texas has an all-time winning football H2H record against, with a minimum of 4 games played just to make it more than a time or two:

Alabama
Auburn
Oklahoma
Georgia
LSU
Nebraska
Oregon
Texas AM
Washington

Among blue bloods they've played less than four times, they still have winning records against:

Florida
Michigan
Ohio State
Tennessee

The only blue bloods they have losing records against are:

USC ............. 2-5
Penn State .... 2-3
Notre Dame .. 3-9

FWIW, Texas has never played the two top ACC programs, FSU or Clemson.

BTW, the other reason her comment was stupid is that it's just a snipe-remark, it has no substance or seriousness behind it, which only served to underscore the petty, pointlessness of the hearing.

The odd part is UT's first win against USC was in the 2005 BCS title game. The first loss against Alabama was in the 2009 BCS title game.

Texas was just barely behind Alabama in the 60s as the 2nd winningest team. And was the top program in the polls and wins in the 2000-2009 decade. 2010 decade was one of the worst ever for Texas, but they still had a top 10 finish and were #36th in AP polls for the decade.

Texas is 4th in all time wins (923) and was 2nd until recently passed by Alabama (929) and Ohio St.(931).

Texas had 3 losing seasons in a row for the 2nd time ever and has had 4 seasons at .500 or worse since the BCS era began. Alabama also had had 4 seasons of .500 or worse in that era, 6 if you count forfeits in 2005 and 2007. Alabama has 11 since WWII (14 with forfeits). Texas only has slightly more with 14.
