Crazy B1G pod idea. Drop 2 add a few, voila 24
Drop Northwestern
Drop Purdue
Add 6 ACC and 6 PAC 12 school to form Voltron.

So in the end there will be a 24 Team super-conference with a Pacific coast zone, a Midwest zone, an East coast zone, and a South Atlantic zone Zone.

The B1G loses basically nothing with the loss of Northwestern & Purdue.

Divisional alignment would go something like this:
.....North
Michigan
Michigan State
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Iowa
Nebraska
.....East
Rutgers
Maryland
Penn State
Ohio State
Indiana
Illinois
.....West
Washington
Oregon
USC
UCLA
Arizona State
Colorado
.....South
Virginia
Duke
North Carolina
Clemson
Georgia Tech
Florida State

I say if you're going to expand, then go hard. You basically add the full TV markets and most valuable brands from the Atlantic and Pacific. The only super valuable football schools or large markets that aren't in the fold are in the SEC or Notre Dame.
Scheduling would be a monster, but think a league like this would be a legitimate coast to coast competitor financially and competitively to the SEC.

Stopped reading at "Drop Northwestern and Purdue." You might as well throw out Illinois and ban any conference members from playing Notre Dame if you want to alienate Chicago that hard.

I don’t imagine Northwestern on Purdue gets voted out of the B1G. If you take FSU and Clemson out of this, move maybe Maryland and Rutgers in with the ACC schools then this is more realistic. I imagine FSU and Clemson would prefer SEC for long-standing rivalries within it.

It's a lot easier to come up with scenarios if you imagine that it's like trading baseball cards, so the people who imagine that it's like trading baseball cards have an easier time coming up with "proposals" or, as here, "crazy ideas".

I see some non-AAU schools in there. Not a chance.

Crazier idea, convince Northwestern and Purdue to become Olympic sports only (aka basketball-only) members of the B1G.

I'd rather Northwestern be a football only member of the B1G. Northwestern has made the NCAA Men's Tournament a grand one time.

Yet, it won't be possible to convince them to take a partial membership of either kind. And of course, That School Up North, Purdue, Illinois, Wisconsin and Minnesota are not going to vote to demote a member of their clique.
