Probably no one since every D1 team has 2-3+ transfers out every year.

In many cases, it's hard to distinguish between a transfer and a guy being forced out. The coaches meet with each player after the season is over. I'm sure the coaches make it quite clear when they want a guy to leave to open up a scholarship. I also imagine that the feeling is often mutual; that is, a player doesn't want to stay anyway if the coaches are saying that he is unlikely to see the court.

Hope Offutt's connections in central Ohio can lead to more future recruits from that area. At least Simmons isn't a guard or wing.

Simmons is having an excellent Summer AAU season and his team Nova Village also features Columbus area High School Players SG Cooper Davis and SF Drey Carter who both recently received offers from Toledo. Simmons at 6-7 is the prototype Power Forward that MAC Teams normally recruit. Like Willie Jackson, if Simmons was 2 inches taller, some majors would most likely be showing interest.

Simmons is often listed as 6-6. Wish we would get more of the 6-8 guys that Ohio seems to get.

good post, although, for clarity, willie jackson began his basketball career in the SEC as a 6-5/6-6 ish small forward, but he was better as a MAC PF at UT.

weʻll see with simmons. Bigs are hard to predict, but as a mid major you gotta get some of the smaller under-recruited or transfer guys. thereʻs a lot more 6-6 humans than 6-10 ones. you also miss on some. I was fairly convinced taylor adway would have at least 1 big season at UT during his career.. zach garber was 6-10 but never quite made an impact. thereʻs a lot of big guys with some potential weʻve forgotten. thereʻs guys whose height was a bit exagerrated. and occasionally kids who grew an inch or two as young Rockets. i have more faith in simmons 210 lbs than his 6-7 until I see him on the court with UT. will check out his videos.

iʻd seen tape of cooper davis. shooter. nice soft shot. UT is his 1st D1 offer. Lots of early D2 offers. pretty good guard size at 6-4 or 6-5. not real explosive or crafty with the dribble, but looks athletic and aggressive on defense. weʻll see how hard the rockets recruit him and carter. thereʻs a lot of familiarity developing there, but how many kids do you over-sign with the transfer portal today? I think coach K usually has 1 or 2 kids he kinda wants to leave because he doesnʻt see them cracking the rotation. jonathon komamgom, maranka, for example. and then someone who is a bit of a surprise transfer out-not someone the staff was trying to lose.

Personally ... I think 10-15 minutes of Komamgom per game would be a welcome plus for this team.

Just sayin ...

Not every big man is a 25-30 minute player ... actually, most are not, especially at the mm-level. A solid post backup (look at Ohio) good for 10-15 minutes of production a game is golden, even if he is one-dimensional (shot-blocker, banger, rebounder, scorer). That's also an extra 5 fouls to give plus 1-2 fouls to save instead of exposing your main guy.

Biggest difference between a 6-6 UT guy and and 6-8 Ohio is one team measures differently than the other.

Will say that his broad shoulders and reach look legit. Reminds me a bit of Stevie Taylor in build and game. I think Taylor was listed at 6.9 but was more like 6.7. I believe UT measures in shoes which is common. Back in the day we measured bare foot but few folks do that anymore . Shoes typically add an inch although occasionally a guy gets an inch and a half from shoes

Knew a player that was 6'2" Fall of his Senior year and 12 months later 6'7". Wouldn't be surprised if Javan would grow another inch or two.

Link to article from Gahanna vs CCHS in December. Nice write up on a couple CCHS 2023 players including Chico Johnson and also Javan Simmons from Gahanna.

This is off topic but worth mentioning that today the Washington Huskies offered Jerry Easter from Emmanuel Christian School class of 2025. He already has offers from Washington, Arizona St. and bugs. C'mon TK - time is running out on this local hot prospect. 07-coffee303-idea07-coffee3

some folks have him as the #1 prospect in his class (I know, already? The kidʻs like 13). i went to school and played ball with his pops. last time I saw him was a few years back at the West Side Tremainsville Y pretty much dominating a high level pickup game at about 46. lots of boys in that family and they all are good at sports. in my generation, 3 of the Easter brothers around my age started for different city league schools, all were some level of all-city and all had a mean streak on the court, the youngest played in the MAC. the next generation already has a world champion boxer and a top national basketball prospect, probably others-Iʻm not around town much to stay up on local sports.

I donʻt think UT recruited anybody in the family at any point, which kind of kills it for "the hometown kid everyone wants flips the script to play for regular olʻ hometown U" narrative. not saying they should have, just that the only way you get a kid thatʻs too good for your program is if you have some built in relationships and connection. the easterʻs are the most prolific local sports family of the past 2 generations and I donʻt think UT has ever had any connections with them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wcyRoFLpCE

against kids his age, as you can see he can do everything but jump.
