Posted this on the AAC board, but it's true here as well. These boards are getting rough with all of the "experts" who know what is going to happen along with lots of people with agendas posting. It's amazing to see so many people who are completely sure of themselves and yet who are diametrically opposed in terms of what they're saying. Lots of fans who have very different opinions about the relative place/importance of their favorite schools. Clearly not all of those opinions are based in reality...

RE: cave "periti"
I've gone around in a circle over the XII.

-Initially I thought an off ramp to the B1G/PAC was realistic w/ WVU to the AAC.
-Then I realized that WVU wasn't joining the AAC under any conditions.
-BYU is the best draft pick for the XII and I think CSU is a logical bridge.
-WVU I think at this point will suck it up in the XII for another 10 years.

P leagues tend to circle the wagons and be discriminating on expanding the club. That is why I don't a 14-16 team XII is likely.

Its all those years in a P league that really make a difference. Baylor is an example of that. If not for the XII they would be in Tulane's shoes but instead they are the defending men's basketball champions. This is why the XII might be reluctant to expand the club. They grow by 10% a year while the G leagues grow by 5%. Even if they can hang on to their status for 10 more years they would be better off than giving it up.

So, empirically, how far is your bridge from BYU, and how far is it from each of the Remaining Eight?

It's simple to call a school a bridge because it lies between the bulk of the conference and another school, but if the distances are too long either way, you aren't building a bridge, you are just creating an island chain.

The geographic rational for Memphis is not "as a bridge to WVU", it's that it's about an eight hour drive from Stillwater, Dallas, Lawrence KS and Waco, and 9 from Manhattan KS, so its closest to the footprint for any prospective add from the top half of the AAC football and basketball ladders over the past 4-5 years other than Houston.

LOL. But in my defense (if that's targeted at someone like me), UT suddenly and deliberately launched this Goebbles-like propagandistic war last week (the "week of infamy") and they are going to reap what they sow. Their blather - often repeated mindlessly by the media and innocent by-standers - is going to be countered relentlessly. To paraphrase Churchill, "we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight on the internet and on the football fields; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, Ft. Worth or the Carter were subjugated and starving, then FrogNation beyond the seas, will come forward to the rescue and liberation of the oppressed." And to paraphrase FDR, "with confidence in our Frog forces, with the unbounding determination of our people, we shall gain the inevitable triumph, so help us God!"

(That said, I could always be wrong...)

Definitely not aimed at anybody in particular. Just primarily a word of caution to people who put stock in things that are posted as Gospel but are actually pure conjecture.

Similar to my prior post - was more trying to keep people from getting into argument vortices with people purporting to be experts when in reality...

I'm curious - what exactly did UT say that you found so onerous?

Well Tulane dropped basketball for a year or two, so you are exaggerating a little.

One thing I’ve learned is ignore the talking heads and the you tubers. Anyone who is trying to generate views with outlandish, extreme insider knowledge is making it up.

The folks to listen to are some of the long time, credible posters. There’s a lot of well read folks who follow this stuff closely and have a good understanding of the dynamics and the money.
