Probably waiting for his dad to start a university.

Smart money now on Memphis? Decision tomorrow?

Memphis. Who would have thought a year ago????

Penny Hardaway seems like a fun guy to play for. Real fun teams to watch. Best proof you can go home again.
How much $ is Bates getting from FedEx?

Probably less than Cade Cunningham is getting from the Pistons, but I'll have to check... 03-lmfao

Lacrosse signed 7 players and none of them are from MI. Softball is a huge sport in MI and should still be at EMU.

Nickle you once again are correct.

Unfortunately the NCAA requirement of having 16 varsity teams to remain in D1 and the Title IX law have forced athletic directors to substitute sports based on cost only. Lacrosse is going to be cheaper than softball. CMU also dropped Men's track and field in favor of golf. Central does not even have a golf course but golf will be cheaper than T&F for sure.

Dear WoodenNickle,
Watching the Steeler games, i don't think he got much of a chance. When he was running routes, the quarterback almost never threw the ball in his direction, so I don't think got to show his receiving skills.
When in punt return situations, he had one nice return, but again, they also used others in that position.
I think his size was a factor in their thinking.

Lacrosse will be a failure. Kids that do come will get degrees and leave. Travelling far distances to games will be expensive. Need more colloboration with other midwest schools to either start softball later or not travel as much early in year.

Youth softball in MI is booming. There are a ton of girls playing and indoor facilities popping up everywhere.

I don't know any girls that play lacrosse but I know dozens that play SB, including one at another MAC school. SB and BB are a deep part of the Michigan culture.

Nickle you and the Fan are preaching to the choir, Lacrosse is a "hoity-toity" sport dominated by East Coast schools of which many are private. Hell, such national athletic powers like Stony Brook and Drexel were in the NCAA Top Ten last year. It, in no way, will be a legitimate replacement for softball of which bye the way, we have an established and attractive facility. I suspect we will be forced to retrofit Rynearson for such play unless we could convince Big Money U-M to allow us to use their dedicated and spectacular Lacrosse facility on State St.

All that stated, the MAC has an existing six team Lacrosse league with CMU, Akron and Kent St being members along with UDM and Youngstown State. The undefeated champion last year, however, was of course a private east coast school, Robert Morris.

Title IX was a well intended law, but in this case it has unintended consequences. EMU Lacrosse simply is a "callisthenic" to comply with Title IX and NCAA requirements. It is simply all about the MONEY! And that makes me sad.

RE: Monday Musings for August
Fifth and last Monday of August.

Covid came back. EMU Steve came back to campus. Hurricane season came (has come) back.

Tigers are coming back. Taylor came back as the Little League champ of the U.S.

Next Monday will be...

Our Afghanistan troops are coming back. EMU FB is coming back - before the September edition of this thread.

What (else) will Monday Musings for September bring besides a few EMU FB WINS!!!

I need to know who on this board attended an EMU soft ball game or watched one on TV in the last 20 years.

NOTE: if a relative or family friend was on the team it doesnt count.

These MAC rankings have me musing and also wetting my pants. Not good to have three divisional rivals ranked #1 -3 in the MAC.

I have - but as I said in a previous post, EMU softball was always mired at the bottom of the MAC and had a hard time generating wins and program momentum. It was a disappointing choice to cut, but somewhat logical in terms of clout and lack of success.

I did. Took my daughters. I also attended wrestling matches, gymnastics, baseball, football, soccer, MBB, WBB, and indoor T&F.
