Maybe they could call it the Southwest Conference.

RE: The Texas Conference
Could this new conference be a roadblock to keep the WAC and A-Sun from going FBS?

Lamar
SFAU
Sam Houston State
Abilene Christian
UTRGV
Tarleton State
UCA
West Texas A&M
Central Oklahoma

All these schools could help get those conferences going, and taking any numbers of them will put them behind.

Florida leaving the SEC for an All Florida conference and trading Georgia, Alabama, LSU, and soon Oklahoma and Texas for Florida Atlantic and Florida International is stupid.

Florida State leaving the ACC for an All Florida conference and trading Clemson, Miami, and the North Carolina schools for Florida Atlantic and Florida International is stupid.

Texas not going to the SEC for an all Texas conference and not playing LSU, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida for North Texas and Rice is stupid.

Texas A&M leaving the SEC for an all Texas conference and leaving LSU, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida and Texas and Oklahoma coming in for North Texas and Rice is stupid.

TCU? They can either be in an all Texas conference or a Texas/Oklahoma less Big 12. Maybe North Texas and Rice aren't Kansas State, Iowa State, and West Virginia but I don't see it as that much of a step down.

After Oklahoma and Texas leave the Big 12, the remaining Big 12 schools can't be considered "P5" level anymore unless any of the SEC, Big 10, ACC, or Pac 12 add them. The question then becomes is it worth it for the next level schools to band together to form a "second level" even if it geographically more inconvenient (especially for their basketball and Olympic sports) or realign to form more geographically convenient conferences? Maybe the "5th" conference becomes a football only conference and all these schools play in more geographically convenient conferences for other sports (ex. Temple in the A-10, Cincinnati in the MAC, etc).

This conference would look a lot better at 12 with Texas and Texas A&M forced to play in it. 05-stirthepot

This will never happen. Can you imagine TCU or Texas Tech playing Texas State or North Texas? Texas Monthly knows nothing about college football.
