ECU isn’t leaving the AAC to join some new conference. I could see the AAC adding ODU and Marshall if they get poached.

lol

Nothing has been funnier than watching Temple pretend to be an FBS program. Well, maybe UMass.

Can't group Temple with UMass. In 2019 then went 8-5 losing to UNC in a bowl game and having two wins over top 25 teams. UConn yes, but not Temple.

I see that, they have actually improved quite a bit the past 5 years though they did lose to UNC in that bowl game 55-13. We’ve never beaten UNC though I don’t think we’ve ever lost to them that badly. Temple was 1-6 last year.

I actually think UConn is in a far better position being the only team in CT and with no pro competition either. And their basketball gives them a better pedigree. They have all the factors you would need to build and remain FBS.

The problem for Temple is geography. All of the eastern schools are now either ACC or Big 10. There’s no way they are gaining entry into either one. I certainly think they are a cut above the CAA though they do struggle in games with us - Villanova for one. We beat them last time we played. They used to have a very bitter football rivalry with Delaware as well.

Maybe the door would open for Army and Navy. Then you could add UMass, UConn, maybe Temple. There would be a need for more teams on the seaboard so it could present itself for the upper tier of the CAA to fold in - Delaware, JMU, Villanova. I would hope our new AD would work hard to push us in. It’s the only possible upgrade I can see available to W&M in football. As a football conference, I think that would be very appealing for W&M. That would be your East Coast MAC.

I'm not trying to disparage what Temple has done or the State of their program. They have had some great teams. The whole point is what is going to happen going forward if this grand realignment happens. It will undoubtedly lead to a larger gap between the haves and the have nots. You may not like to hear the comparisons with these other schools, but the new reality could very well put Temple closer to the high end FCS level than they are to the high end FBS schools. Perhaps this doesn't materialize, but the tea leaves are pointing towards mid tier FBS programs having to do some serious soul searching as to where they can afford to compete.

I looked. 52-45? That's what we should have been paying closer attention to? 4 head coaches since 2013, including one who was hired and then left before coaching a game? On the Temple football Wikipedia page (which looks like it was written by the Temple AD) there are two rivalries listed: Penn State, 4-40-1, and Villanova, 16-16-2. 4-40-1 is overstating it, too, as Temple won 3 of the first 4 meetings. On the other side, Temple is 4-3 vs. Villanova since 2000, 4-2 since 2010. Tell me again about big-time Temple football. Temple belongs in FCS, along with almost the entire AAC.

To be fair I think the AAC is one of the stronger G5 leagues. Of course, being "one of the stronger G5 leagues" is a bit like kissing your sister.

Members of the last graduating class at W&M to enjoy a winning football season received their diplomas in 2016. Hoping class of ‘22 has similar good fortune. Even then I’m not sure Tribe fans will be in a position to cast a whole lot of asparagus.

Well, if you are going to cast asparagus, at least cut off and save the tips and just cast the stems...

Great, Temple guy going after W&M. We've really hit rock bottom.

I really miss the old CAAzone days. Smack talk was highly entertaining. ODU vs VCU week was difficult to follow.

This made me laugh out loud. Thanks for the chuckle.
In actuality, we should be so lucky.

03-tired

Perhaps the commissioner is blessed with an opportunity to demonstrate his prowess?

RE: Realignment
How viable are the C-USA and the Sun Belt, even given a geographically sound realignment, after the Power 5 become some version of the Power 4 (or one super conference)?

I assume the big boys are breaking away from the NCAA (at least in football) and taking all the TV revenue with them.

That is the multi million dollar question. How viable will these mid tier FBS conferences be with only regional TV coverage? Feels like a lot of programs are overextended in their spending. Can they survive off local TV, ticket sales, parking, and concessions? If the big boys are unwilling to share the wealth (ie buy games, national TV deals, meaningful $$ bowl games), I'm not sure the money generated by the AACs, the MACs, and the CUSAs will be enough to sustain their current overhead. The NCAA and its rules were really the only guardrail making the big schools act responsibly. Now that the NCAA has started to lose all of its teeth, I'd imagine you'll have the major conferences bullying network TV into exclusive deals and the rest of college sports will be streamed online or on regional deals. You know, kind of like it's always been for us this entire time.
I hope my apocalyptic outlook doesn't happen. There just doesn't seem a lot of incentive for those in power to want anything different.

I chuckle when posters add to a thread they want retired. We have limited access to football camp, a daily rundown on all the basketball players committed elsewhere, and Nathan Knight. These messy threads should expire in 25 days...hang in there.

I think rock bottom is taking shots at an FBS program when you've never played at that level while watching ODU surpass you.

Except we played "at that level" for about 80 years. Nice attempt at weak smack.

It's telling that you have nothing better to do than come to a lowly W&M forum trying to convince us to care about Temple. Are you still mad because the last time we played you, we embarrassed you at home?

BTW, did your school really pay $3.2m in a single year for a HC who has since produced a losing record?
