I think a key to that was five years ago, when LSU and Florida had a very public dispute over the cancellation and rescheduling of their 2016 football game that was impacted by a hurricane. That was publicly acrimonious and it happened under Sankey, who had been on the job for only about a year.

So it wouldn't surprise me if Sankey has vowed to never let that happen again.

SEC protocol on the ceremonial second vote, no negative votes, and in this case nobody abstained either.

When a school requests an application an initial unrecorded vote is held requiring 3/4ths to be sent an application. This is the vote that matters. If a school pushes the conference for an application after a negative vote they get one, but the submitted application is usually tabled. When the SEC invites someone to join the ceremonial vote requires no negative votes. All new members start with no recorded animus and full support, or at least with abstentions no rejections.

And Quo, Sankey as with all newbies had to grow into the job. I was apprehensive after the incident you cite. After the way he handled A&M I would say he not only found a pair, but a big damned pair at that!
