Is there any point in gifts being illegal anymore?

Let's be real, here, this money isn't flowing because businesses think it's the best use of their advertising budget. It's a back door to buying players.

There really needs to be some restrictions on this or else honestly there's no point in gifts being illegal.

Still think it's weird that he became the #1 recruit because his uncle was on that Netflix show.

I must admit, though, that my kombucha buying decisions will be affected by which college athletes represent them.

It never should have been "Illegal"...especially when you currently have Assistant Football Coaches making over 7 figures annually. If it not against local or federal law let the free market reign

If the institutions making millions (and cumulatively billions) were actually footing a cent of the bill you might have some kind of point. This is just letting players find a market value after a century of an artificial cap being in place. Is it inflated? Probably, but it beats whatever other marketing stunt Holy Kombucha was going to pull and it more than pays the bills for a kid's family.

The rich will stay rich but none of us lose anything in the deal except our illusions.

There will also be a market correction at some point once businesses figure out what value these athletes really have and as the market gets saturated with deals.

Of course Jim Bob's Auto Dealerships may not care if that 100K a year they are paying recruits at State U sells any cars as long as it gets the top recruits to come and win games.

Keep in mind this will have to be legal money on the books.

Cash flowing in from poker game winnings is still going to require some sleight of hand.
