Post Week Power Rankings
Northern Illinois
Western Michigan
Eastern Michigan
Central Michigan
Toledo
Miami
Buffalo
Kent St
Ball St
Bowling Green St
Akron
Ohio

NIU beat P5, hasn't played FCS yet
WMU beat P5, shutout FCS. (Ugh, I feel like every year I rank them high OOC only to be disappointed later in the season.)
EMU easier schedule but I'm not gonna punish them for W's
CMU & Toledo have played P5's well
Miami thru Akron bunch of 2 loss teams. I'll put MU at the top b/c of the tough schedule, expect them to climb as schedule gets better. Next 5 I just sort of slotted based on pre-season expectations
OU 3 L's

Last Week:
Northern Illinois
Toledo
Central Michigan
Buffalo
Kent St
Western Michigan
Eastern Michigan
Ball St
Miami
Bowling Green St
Akron
Ohio

I have no words for that ranking so I'll just sit here and be baffled.

What can I say? The West looks decent, but overall hard to rank.

I wouldn't place NIU high because and only because they ended up beating GA-Tech. Not knocking the Huskies but NIU historically, good or bad, can somehow pull stuff out of their "pocket" and beat a P5. Which is great, but not necessarily a marker for how good their season will be -- and in this case not, as it was due to turnover city and "on paper" beside that GA-Tech did more than very good. That said, NIU shows potential explosiveness as shown in the Wyoming game 2nd half. And ran just fine against Michigan, but somehow couldn't put up any real points outside the early FG.

And I'm not saying this as some WMU homer. I have my critiques of WMU and am not thinking they're some dominator by any stretch. But it's just that the MAC isn't doing so hot. AND, most importantly rankings right now, don't mean much. But here's mine:

TEAM GB
WMU ---
Buffalo 0.5
NIU 1
CMU 1
Miami 1.5
Toledo 1.5
EMU 2.5
Kent St 2.5
Ball St 3.5
BGSU 4.5
Akron 4.5
Ohio 4.5

I don't see any real problem with that.

I would rank WMU 1st and NIU 2nd. No one else in the MAC has beat anyone of consequence except for NIU and WMU. WMU has two wins (even if their 2nd win is FCS). Maybe rank NIU and WMU as 1a and 1b if WMU loses to SJSU this weekend and we beat our FCS opponent.

EMU has a FBS win over a very bad UMass and a FCS win over a small FCS so they should be 3rd. Everyone else in the MAC only has an FCS win or no wins at all.

I definitely could see Ball State finishing last in the West based on how they've played thus far. Unless Ball State suddenly becomes a good team again they somehow have regressed despite returning 20 starters on offense and defense. How is that possible?!? Or was their success last season more of a product of them winning close games and playing a MAC-only schedule?

How the heck does Toledo lose at home to 0-2 Colorado St?!? Not just lose, but somehow be uncompetitive against a winless team too.

I really have no clue what to make of the MAC East. Seems like BGSU could go from worst to first in that division. I could see Buffalo and Kent State winning the East too. Akron and Ohio are most certainly fighting for the bottom of that division.

The Falcons are turning a corner. We may win a couple of MAC games.

IIUC, this new fangled "divisional" scheduling means you do play Ohio and Akron this year, with can be pencilled in at this point as winnable games ... one unsurprisingly, the other unusually.

Edit: Sure, the Falcons can beat a Big Ten team, but we will have to wait for the conference games to see if they have really turned the corner. Maybe the "All Tears Tier" ends up being Akron and Ohio.
