Iowa State AD Jamie Pollard quote from October 2016 on Value of remaining B12 Schools
"The Big 12 exists because we have Texas and Oklahoma in the room. If we take Texas and Oklahoma out of the room, we’re the Mountain West Conference and we’re going to get $3 million."

IMO, that is correct, and tells us all we need to know about the value to other P conferences of those schools.

I suspect this is hyperbole to make a point---but I think we all get what he's trying to say.

This is part of the reason I say the smartest thing the Big 12 can do is say to Texas and Oklahoma, thank you for the notice, you can leave in 2025, and not open negotiations for early departure.

They need the higher profile for as long as they can keep it. It's off into the wilderness of ESPN8 ("the Ocho") for the little eight when the big two are gone.

BUt living with your ex for four years, that would suck. (They'll let them exit early, human nature)

Not sure it is hyperbole. With inflation in right fees, what are those 8 worth, maybe $10 million?

Well---the MW was making less than the AAC was making then---I think it was a bit over 1 million a team for most---though Boise was probably making around 3.

That quote was a fireable offense. Imagine trying to negotiate with networks now.

That quote is great because it properly prioritized what ISU (and all other B12 schools) needed to do.

Since I’m a contrarian…I wonder whether ISU could partner with KU for an overture to the PAC. The schools have the right profile, strong fanbases and Colorado built the bridge. Not only does it give the PAC some CTZ media exposure, but could be a way to open more collaboration with the BIG.

I appreciate the honesty. And IIRC, he still has that job. :)

I doubt it would work, but if i were a ISU or any B12 school, i would be trying anything i could, solo or packages of this kind, to tey and get in the PAC or B1G.

I don't think Iowa & Kansas are culturally aligned with any of the Pac states except for Utah. Why would a west coast team ever want to visit Iowa or Kansas?

I agree, I don't see any reason why the PAC would be interested in Kansas or ISU. But if I were Kansas and ISU, I would be calling the PAC nonstop, the B1G too of course.

Desperate times call for desperate measures.
