18 months with notice and UT are out of the B12 with getting the early exit fees paid. They will have no trouble coming up with the checks.

Lawyer says that Texas' sovereign immunity law would keep UT from from being sued there should UT decline to honor the contract:

Lots of interesting information here.

What seems to be apparent, IMO, is that at least in this case, the GOR is not some huge insurmountable barrier that it often is portrayed as being.

It never was insurmountable, but it is a barrier. This might be the only case -- unless Ohio State someday leaves the Big Ten -- where there is enough money in the move and in the athletic departments that are moving to jump over the barrier.

If I'm correct, TX & OU are only going to inform the Big 12 that they are not renewing the Grant of Rights, not leaving the conference as of yet. So, the conference can not charge them for moving to a new conference. The only thing they have done is made the Big 12 unstable and now forced the hand of the other members to take action. So now if
2 more schools finds a new home (WV and KU), doesn't the Big 12 bylaws state it only takes 4 schools to dissolve the conference?

Texas and Oklahoma could make their move to the SEC official in a matter of weeks, ESPN has confirmed.

The Austin American-Statesman reported Friday that a Big 12 source believed talks between the SEC and the two schools had been ongoing for more than six months, though Texas A&M had been left out of the discussions. The report said the move could become official in a matter of weeks.

A high level administrator said his understanding of the situation mirrors that timeline.

A Big 12 source told ESPN's Heather Dinich that neither Texas nor Oklahoma has officially expressed their desire to leave to the rest of the conference membership.

ESPN reported Thursday that both Texas and Oklahoma would likely owe the Big 12 upwards of $76 million apiece to buy out the remainder of their grant of media rights agreement, which runs until 2025. A new agreement with the SEC, however, would likely make that price tag easily affordable for the two powerhouse programs.

I suspect that the part about that $76 million may be misleading. What I believe Heather Dinich said this morning on Sports Center is that the exit fee to leave the Big 12 is $76 million. I've not heard of any GoR having a predefined buyout price, especially when there is such a large disparity in value among individual members as there is in this case. I expect that's a number to be negotiated along with the length of the lame duck period.

When all is said and done, I expect UT and OU would play this season and 2022 in the Big 12, and pay in the ballpark of $120 million each spread over at least four years. That means each of the eight remaining schools would get about $30 million apiece. If they want to leave earlier than that, forcing some hasty changes in OOC contracts, the exit price would go up.

I suspect it will be a bit north of $100 million each too, maybe somewhat less than your number. But around there.

75% at minimum, or 8 to be exact.

I could see how a simple majority of 6 would do the trick.

And by 2035, ESPN/Disney will have buried the ACC. Same song, different dance.

I would not rule out a P12-B12 merger.
