Possible new Big 12 post OU & Texas
*****Big 8 remnants
Colorado State
Kansas
Kansas State
Iowa State
Missouri State
Oklahoma State
Tulsa
Arkansas State
*****SWC remnants
Texas Tech
North Texas
Baylor
SMU
TCU
Houston
Rice
UTSA

Obviously WVU is gone but this would be a respectable league sans the top heavy pair in UT and OU.

RE: Possible new Big 12 post OU & Texas
If the Big East's failed expansion plans in 2011 proved anything, it's that a conference cannot replace significant lose value in a few members (Syracuse/Pittsburgh, West Virginia/Louisville, Texas/Oklahoma) by extending invitations to a large® number of schools. More schools, and more additions, do not add up to replace the lost value. If anything, the additional numbers need to be kept small, so as not to water down the remaining value of said conference even further. There will always be time to add more down the road, as the AAC has proven as the top tweener conference for the past decade. However, it very much appears that the Big 12 will replace the AAC in that regard.

The Big 12 should, IMO, only look to add two in the immediate term. The SEC, B1G, ACC and PAC are not going to beating down the doors for any of the remaining Big 12 programs, nor will they look to add anyone from the G5. They can always add more in a number of years.

I agree, but I would counter that unlike Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Boston College, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, & Rutgers... These schools in the middle of the country don't have anyone checking for them. The only possible Power 5 offers that may be coming are Kansas and Okie State (if the legislature is able to lean on OU). Apart from that all of the desirable teams have been plucked. So trying to make lemons out of lemonade... I see this as a way to keep the league afloat as the best G5 now G6 member.

RE: Possible new Big 12 post OU & Texas
My expectation is the XII > XIV with BYU (football-only), Central Florida, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, South Florida.

However, would the XII be interested in focusing on basketball with non-football additions? The Big East did fall apart with this model but that was after 23 years which is a lot of time to maintain low-level power status. What about going to 14 in football and 16 in basketball?

Full members: Central Florida, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, South Florida
Football-only: BYU
Non-football: Dayton, Saint Louis, Wichita St

Football Divisions:
East: Central Florida, Cincinnati, Houston, Memphis, South Florida, TCU, West Virginia
West: Baylor, BYU*, Iowa St, Kansas, Kansas St, Oklahoma St, Texas Tech

That basketball conference would still be really good without the non-football playing schools I don’t think it would be necessary.
