Can she enroll early? Haha. Nice to get a pitcher she looks promising.

Big time! I believe she is ranked in top 10 nationally for her class.

And recently took visits to auburn and Oregon. So we beat out those two plus Georgia and I’m sure others to land her. The WS run is paying huge dividends.

RE: 2022 Dukes Softball
Well - it appears we did not get a St Pete invite this year. I do understand why.....

https://www.stpeteclearwatereliteinvite.com/teams/

I think it really benefits us playing top teams experience wise. Hopefully we can get some games in smaller tournaments against top 25 teams.

"On paper" this team appears to be a step below the Ford, Good, Alexander teams.

I believe Loren is a great coach for JMU, and can get us back to top 25, but not this year. Humphrey is a top 50 caliber pitcher at this point.

We need to win the CAA this year, and build for the future.

One player/pitcher makes all the difference in the world in college softball. Hopefully Kirsten Fleet can be that player. Of interest she switched from Georgia to JMU. Makes you wonder why. I see the coaching change was said to be the reason. She also looked good in the state championship. Hopefully she is JMU's Elena Delle Donne.

There are 15 teams on that list. Still room for one more! 04-cheers

This paragraph stood out big time to me....
“It’s crazy how they’ve developed pitchers there,” Fleet said of JMU. “Everybody that comes in you can tell they got better while they were there. We actually consider them the pitching university. That’s how I look at them. They are going to develop pitchers to be the best they can possibly be and there is a legacy of pitchers at JMU. I wanted to be part of that legacy.”

"Legacy". Big words coming from a big name recruit.
I don't have big expectations for the team this year, but to be fair I didn't have huge expectations last year and we see how that went.

Legacy = what Loren has developed.

Although - show some patience as a fan this year.

Absolutely. I would love to see this team make the playoffs, but we lost so many important pieces from last year's team it is going to take some players stepping up in a major way. It seems very unrealistic to have the same expectations we have had these last few years.
This is definitely a rebuilding year. I don't expect us to be rebuilding for too long, though.
As for this team, I am sure that they are well aware of that and I think they will come out with a chip on their shoulder. That may be a good thing, though.

"My" goals for this year for softball.

Win the CAA regular season.

Win the CAA tournament.

See Alissa improve, and stay healthy.

Alissa dominated the CAA for much of the year, so the bar for winning the CAA should be a very attainable goal. If Alissa takes a step back or is not healthy the CAA becomes much more challenging.

Agree she's very good and was at or near the top in the CAA. The big unknown is what is Alissa's ceiling this season?

Looks like today is national signing day for softball. The FB account has posted three commits so far. I saw one is the Ohio state player of the year (KK Mathis), another utility player, and right hand spinner.

RE: 2022 Dukes Softball
I usually follow the teams on their twitter accounts. Looks like four players signed this fall:

Kylah Berry, P: righty spin pitcher who mixes speeds and locations
Bella Henzler, C: can play catcher and outfield; can hit for power and average; ranked #67 in Extra Innings Elite 100 rankings
Kaelyn "KK" Mathis, INF/P: Ohio player of the year; can hit for power and is a gamer
Kamryn Nash, UTIL: Has good speed, which is combined with power and contact ability; can play everywhere around the field.

Not 2022 season related, but there was a nice article about CC in the latest Novec Cooperative Living magazine of all places. I usually throw these things away without a 2nd thought but fortunately happened to take a closer look this time. She’s featured on the cover but it didn’t immediately register since it wasn’t in her JMU uniform. If you have Novec for power be on the lookout.

Local softball star signs w/ Penn St. Wonder if she was recruited by JMU?

FORT DEFIANCE — It was a moment that Fort Defiance senior Lilian Berry insisted she’s been waiting for since she first put on a glove.

“Ever since I started playing, I imagined pitching on the big screen and being up there,” Berry said.

On Wednesday, with her closest friends, teammates and family members around her, Berry made a dream a reality when she signed her National Letter of Intent to play softball at Penn State.

The 5-foot-6 right-hander is the first Division I softball signee from Fort Defiance in over 20 years.

Too small, need a lefty, a bit of a project for the Dukes, too many unknowns.
