COVID losses, massive national debt, declining enrollment, lack of state funds, and intentional downsizing of a bloated higher ed system has led to this.

Texas maintained talks with the SEC intermittently since then until now. They knew where they would have to go in a crisis.

When giants move its because real danger is on the horizon. And it is. This is a survive and thrive move and the fact that TTU and OSU are not a part emphasizes just how much fear of the future is involved.
Sorry JR. I have been on this board 11 years and I assumed, incorrectly I guess, that JR meant "Junior". My dad was a junior and the family always called him JR. Again, my apologies... My post was merely to point out how on-point you were regarding this.

No problem Medic. An ACC troll likes to use that.

We are going to have to watch Vandy now. If they decide to step out we may add another. Missouri's president needs to lobby for Kansas. If the Big 10 raids the ACC we might take 4 more and stop at 20.

The money is getting huge and the tension is going to be high.

I have a feeling we'll see the SEC and Big 10 emerge supreme and a new conference formed out of the rest which pays in the 40-45 million range so that noone left behind has damage claims. And that conference would have a playoff slot and have a chance at at large spots.

This is a process coming from corporate networks who used COVID losses to accelerate their agenda.
Now that you mention it, I remember that troll. Kansas would be a welcome addition to the SEC. It would benefit their football program, and add to SEC BB. They could also get over the pain of being left by the Tigers. lol

Don't bet on them getting over it. Some butt hurt never dies as it just festers in the bowel. I give you Texas and A&M. There are hemorrhoids inflamed in both of them. Don't they understand that their hate is extremely profitable, like Auburn / Alabama on a grander scale?

I get that it’s all a business and nothing personal, but it’s not really a feeling of hate for UT right now so much as the feeling of being betrayed (especially by our own leadership) so that everyone gets more money which makes it okay that we sacrifice our competitive edge in recruiting and likely lose most of the ground our program has gained in the past 10 years.

I get we're supposed to just take our 60 million and be happy that we’re here and not in the imploding B12 but for an old timer like me who remembers the SWC days and all the days between then and now, the way CFB is headed with the NIL and super mega conferences, it just irks my grumpy old sensibilities to no end and my interest is fading.

But oh well, can’t fight wonderful wonderful progress as they say

I'm pretty sure it will be closer to 73-75 million as escalators over the next 3 years put the (CBS) contract at 51-53 plus 18 is 69-71 and the base of the plus 18 part is light 50 million because the real numbers were never given to the press who guessed 300 million plus because we turned down 307 from CBS. Jack Thompson who handles advertising for Coca Cola and Disney said the initial total was closer to 400 million than 300. Then S.I. said the deal was about a half billion in an article about Sankey and the NCAA I knew we had two extra shares baked in. Next day this stuff hit.

I don't think it's over by a longshot. I think top ACC brands will bolt before it's over and we could wind up with 18 or 20, but I seriously doubt more than that. We could pick up 1 more if Vandy opts out.

We are about to see seismic change and OU and UT only make us enough money to give us our pick of the rest.

As to NIL and pay for play and stipends I'm right there with you. As to being old? Well I was living in San Antonio in November 1963 and was a child of the 50's.

I’ve always figured it was just initials, like J.R. Ewing - just in AL rather than TX. :)

I agree that it’s likely a LOT had already happened behind closed doors, and this secret was kept better than many. I have no dog in the aTm/UT fight, but I can share 10th’s feeling that progress is not always for the better.

It may have been naive to find solace from daily strife in sports, yet for many of us that has been one of its primary appeals. But I agree that powerful actors both in government and industry won’t let a crisis go to waste, and increasing social conflict serves them as well. Consolidation of power in such an environment is to be expected, whether the average person likes it or not.

Unfortunately, I think the most likely outcome is remaining in a diminished Big XII. There are definitely pluses to KU, but as the types of analysis that you often post show, we wouldn’t likely make the grade for the Big 10. That’s in most ways the best fit.

But it would have been one thing being #16 with OU as 15. That would have added blue bloods in both major sports. I don’t see us adding quite enough value otherwise, and there’s no strong partner to pair with. Maybe odd numbers will work with different structures, but just KU is likely not compelling enough.

Obviously we have to wait and see - but I think it’s likely that we just miss the cut. Power conference schools can always schedule ad-hoc basketball games with us if they value our hoops brand.

To clarify are you saying the ACC brand bolt in this cycle, breaking the GOR or that we have room to go to 20 in the next cycle in 2032 (four years ahead of the GOR breaking like it is now).

I guess I'm seeing the opportunity eventually to still grab FSU/Clemson and either UNC/Duke or NC State/Virginia Tech, even though the value might not be there.
