How does the B1G respond if OU and UT go to the SEC?
OU & UT to the SEC is an absolute game changer. Great move for the SEC, UT, & OU. The only party that would be unhappy is A&M but 13 vs 1 vote sounds like a welcome to me. An intriguing question is how do other conferences respond, specifically the B1G. Frankly... I think they are stuck. Without either UT or OU to pursue in the West the focus turns to the ACC schools of Virginia, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Florida State, and part-time Notre Dame. Problem is that all of the aforementioned schools are tied up in a grant of rights for at least another decade. Furthermore, the ACC is still a valuable property for ESPN and may throw them more money to keep that league together.
Speaking of keeping the league together... There would still be some very decent brands in the depleted Big 12. Fox may decide to keep that league together (at a lesser price) as they bring in the best of the best in G5 talent to the new Big12. Some combination of schools like Central Florida, South Florida, Houston, SMU, Louisiana, Memphis, Cincinnati, & Boise State could bump the league up to 14 or 16 or whatever to have a solid collection of schools.

Probably by asking some ACC schools if they’re interested.

I don’t think Florida State, Clemson and Georgia Tech will be happy seeing their SEC in state rivals make a lot of money while they get relegated to second or third tier.

Keep Ohio State and Michigan in the fold. Seriously, if the B1G can't keep them happy, then they're in same position the ACC will be in soon. Once the B1G gets stabilized, then you expand.

By putting a 10-team minimum for a conference to host a CCG.

Big Ten can only play defense. Can’t have the 16-team SEC split into two and take home twice the early December payday.

I would say the Big Ten unfortunately has no moves until the ACC GOR expires and then only Notre Dame would be the move that would be in the ballpark.

The B1G by taking Nebraska has put pressure on the XII and by taking Maryland pressure on the ACC. Even some pressure on the SEC as they are surrounding Kentucky and Missouri.

What about something unconventional and add Clemson and Florida State?

B1G East: Florida State, Clemson, Maryland, Rutgers, Penn State, Ohio State, Indiana, Michigan

That would be skipping over North Carolina but they don't have any big time football teams anyways in North Carolina.

That would be interesting. The public ACC schools come to the B1G as a block and says we'll be the southern division.
Virginia,
Virginia Tech,
North Carolina,
NC State,
Clemson,
Georgia Tech,
Florida State,

It gives the B1G southern exposure and keeps a fair amount of regional rivals.

The PAC’s grant of rights expires the same year that the Big XII’s does (2024). Would expect them to target quickly growing states with many transplants, e.g., Colorado and Arizona. Then there’s the obvious candidate in Kansas.

However, I think that the Big Ten can comfortably stand pat. If the SEC does go to 16, they will have to figure out how to manage such a cumbersome group. They will probably take a “wait and see” approach.

Nah just take Florida State and Clemson at this time.

Florida St adds Florida to the B1G portfolio. Clemson is in between Atlanta and Charlotte.

The others don't bring enough in FB to make a dent.

One thing I believe the Big Ten does is not renew its contract with E$PN.

The Big Ten Presidents are way too pretentious to add Florida State or Clemson. Assuming Texas and Oklahoma do go to the SEC, the only realistic candidates before the ACC’s GOR expires in 2030 or whatever are Kansas, Colorado, and Arizona (because the PAC GOR expires in 2024).

ACC are not available for another 10 years.

The two AAU schools left in B12 are KU and ISU. If they make a play it will be for them

From what I recall from the last go around... Carolina, Virginia, and Georgia Tech were highly sought after. Florida State and Clemson add football respectability. VA Tech, and NC State are solid state schools and are the only 2 negotiables. Either way what's left of the ACC would still be strong if some other regional schools buttress the league. East Carolina, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Temple, UConn, ... Whoever. There are enough schools with enough clout to make some noise

More than one. As many as four more (Mizzou, Arkansas, Tennessee and Vanderbilt) could gum up the works.

Arkansas doesn’t hate Texas like mizzou and A&M

Why Arkansas? They’d be thrilled to be in the same conference with Texas again. It hasn’t been the same for Arkansas since they left the SWC in 1992. The “rivalry” with Texas A&M feels forced. Texas was Arkansas main rival in the SWC. Oklahoma is a school Arkansas can develop a rivalry.

I think that has been in the works for years going all the way back to creation of the B1G network. ESPN clearly values the SEC more than the Big Ten but here's the rub. The Big Ten in spite of being in a region with a declining proportion of the population and talent is still a collection of MASSIVE universities, with stunningly large alumni bases, and are always high in the TV rating department. One benefit of having students leave the state they were educated in is that in addition to their own markets, the Big Ten does decent ratings in non-local markets as well.
Frankly I thought the last time that contracts came up that ESPN was not going to pick up the other half of the package but ultimately they chose to. This time may be different but if history is a measure... The Big Ten wants ESPN and ESPN wants at least a few Big Ten games.

I see no alternative but to wait until the 30s and go for ND. There’s no realistic value adding programs out there.

Well, if you’re the SEC, you don’t let the Big Ten and Pac-12 make a move regardless of what A&M and Mizzou say. The article stated Texas and Oklahoma are looking for other options meaning they’re not just talking to the SEC.
