Both good rivals for those they already have in their divisions.

W.Va. will never be allowed in to the B1G. That's a non-starter. 05-ban

as much as I'd love to restart our annual Guidos vs Hillbillies rivalry, that's 100%

I thing one or both (working together to undermine ESPN) go to the B1G and try to convince them to do something bold by bringing the 4 California schools plus Oregon and Washington (all AAU schools) into the fold. In doing so, you lock up the entire west coast and several major metropolitan areas. That's a 20 team conference, so you'd clearly have to have something like 5 team pods which aren't as neat as the SEC, but you pretty well get away from any "GOR" issues from the ACC and you get the most valuable remaining properties. Then you let the Pac-12 remnants and the Big XII remnants merge to form a "best of the rest" conference if they wish.

Interesting idea.

A truly BIG idea would be to create a 3rd west coast division and raid the PAC
USC
UCLA
Cal
Stanford
Oregon
Washington
Arizona (AAU) or Arizona St (Phoenix + Ice Hockey Program)

This would give the Big 10 a 21 team conference, although it would be more league at that point, that controls the entire country west of Texas and North of Virginia.

Would FOX be willing to pay a per team SEC + Texas/OU level payout to achieve this?

Realistically, I don't see that happening at that scale.

That being said, it might be a good time for the Big Ten and Pac-12 to resurrect the partnership/alliance that ended up getting killed (by the Pac-12 side) a few years ago. That may honestly be better than any expansion option either league has right now.

A pooling of the their TV rights?

Could they get the pie big enough that at 26 way split is enough to match the new 16 team SEC's per team payout?

Not sure if a full pooling would work since the Big Ten is clearly carrying so much more water on that front.

However, maybe pooling all of the Big Ten/Pac-12 games into a separate "alliance" TV package is a way to extract tangible value from that type of partnership beyond just a scheduling arrangement.

I assume FSU, Georgia Tech and Clemson are having serious conversations, Right? If anything, to renegotiate their deal with ESPN. I'd be happy if ESPN overpaid the ACC, just because, or if the major ACC players disband due to hardship since other universities in their states will be killing them with TV contracts.

Does anyone really think these schools would have a problem, at all, to get out of current contracts? I mean how hard would it be to show horrible loses from covid then show the disadvantage they face in their own states among other universities?

You could see them do something where they pay out a base amount of their pooled resources plus another amount based on appearances on each platform (e.g. a bonus for each game selected for broadcast on Fox vs. FS1 vs. FS2). This would result in more money going to the biggest teams/draws, which I would think would be favorable to the Ohio States, Penn States, USCs and Oregons and less favorable to the Purdues, Rutgers, Wazzous and Oregon States...

Sure, although the Big Ten is at the forefront of the equal TV revenue distribution model that has also been adopted by the NFL and SEC. That's just antithetical to the Big Ten model and why the league itself is so strong together. I mean, the Big 12 lost its members in the 2010s largely as a result of unequal revenue distribution - there's a really strong correlation between that type of model and long-term conference dysfunction.

No way will the Big 10 invite WVU. Kansas? Maybe, they are AAU I believe.

Kansas is at the bottom of the AAU barrel and the most likely member to be dropped in favor of any candidate with better academics and greater research activity. The only thing going for it is its reputation as a basketball blueblood. Being the flagship of a backward, low population state has its limitations.

Watch for this to be napalmed into nothingness by the SEC snagging Stanford and USC...right after they get Michigan and Ohio State.

I don't think pretentious is the word you're looking for. Is it pretentious to hire a former janitor as CFO? C'mon now.

Nebraska and Colorado favored unequal distribution. Revenue was equal when two more unequal votes left to join SEC. you have it backwards. Equal distributions are a result of stability

Is it even a conference with USC and UCLA? They issue moving forward for the B1G is that if you make a move on the ACC schools or the Pac-12 schools, you almost have to do a bunch of them as a separate division so as not to isolate them from their region and rivals. How many would you need? 6, 7, 8 teams in order to get enough of the crown jewels of a region to make it workable? Is it even a conference anymore if you do that?

I just don't see it. I can see a B1G/Pac-12 scheduling alliance like they have discussed before. Might be the best move forward. When you look at what the SEC just did, they claimed checkmate. I don't think we see another 16-team conference. Now if we get the 12-team playoff I suspect that the SEC goes to 9 games, no FCS anymore and 1 P5 requirement for scheduling and watch that new TV deal get them to $75 million payouts per school. They've become NFL-lite.
