I think we need to hope the Big 12 remnants mostly stick together and raid MWC and AAC, opening up a potential space for us. If we don't either get into one of those or a new, regional conference that includes at least 3 of UH/SMU/Tulane/Tulsa...

Edit: I mean we the fans wait. Not JK and Leebron.

BigXII gonna have its hands full dealing with Texas and Oklahoma making for bad roomies newt few years. But CDC don't mind dat:

Quote:"Today is an exciting day," (Texas AD Chris) Del Conte said. "There's a lot of opportunity on the horizon, and we feel great about our future. So, as we head into Big 12 action this fall, we'll be competing as hard as ever, striving to be champions on and off the field, and representing our league with the pride and passion that epitomizes our Texas Longhorns. We have a rich tradition and history, and we will continue to compete proudly as members of the Big 12 as we prepare for our future in the SEC in 2025."

I think Texas is gonna having a lot of fun playin' around with those left over unless they let them go sooner.

Quote:"We are disappointed these discussions went as far as they did without notice to, or inclusion of, other Big 12 members," (Big XII Commissioner Bob) Bowlsby said in his statement. "Despite our concerns for the process and for the overall health of college athletics, we will do everything possible to make sure that the student-athletes at both universities enjoy an excellent experience throughout the remaining four years of their participation and competition in the Big 12 Conference."

Yeah, I think the kids at Texas and Oklahoma are gonna enjoy this pretty well.

If we don’t end up somewhere better after realignment, we should go D2 or 3 for football.

RE: New Realignment Thread
I wonder this year if it might be a good strategy for the rest of the league to claim Covid and just not show up for home games in Austin and Norman. I would assume that the 8 other schools could vote that a Covid based default is not a loss. So at least for one year they could hit them in the concession stand and hose ESPN as well.

Wow that would be rude.
Also, a covid-based default is not a win, either.

Also, the two teams by most #games over .500 go to the title game.

OU at 1-0-8 is not enough to advance over 6-1-2 Tx Tech and 5-2-2 Baylor

They would play their home games to generate revenue and skip away match ups to save costs and hit UT and OU in the wallet a bit. OU maybe 4-0-4, Texas 0-4-4, Iowa State 6-1-1.

RE: New Realignment Thread
My interest is obviously how this activity will impact Rice, but think about where you would be if you're Baylor, TCU, etc...

In 2021 you are receiving a check from the Big 12 media rights agreement of approximately $35MM...when the Big 2 leave, or if you have to align with other schools that are not as "desirable", your media rights check could decrease to say $5-$6MM or even less....now your athletic department budget (that was established based on the $35MM income) is in dire shape...you're paying your coaches, staff, etc based on income that may decrease by in excess of $30MM per year...probably lots of sleepless nights coming in Waco, Lubbock, Fort Worth.

It would also deprive UT and OU of the opportunity to show off gameday to their recruits. Since the play the shootout in Dallas, they would have 0 home conference games. They'd be paying for this for years.
