another perspective.
Without Texas and Oklahoma...the Big 12 is about on par with the AAC.
I'd think some sort of merger to keep television contracts should occur...otherwise the current payouts for Big12 schools don't make sense.

The Big 12 will back fill with 2 to 4 of a combo of Us, The FL twins (USF, UCF), Cincy, Houston, BYU. They will keep their Power COnf status until the next round of TV contracts, and then they will be demoted (just like Big East Football). THen they will become the new "tweener" conf and the American will be on par with the MW, or CUSA.

As long as it's good for $15-20 million, that's fine with me. If that happens, which I don't think it will, they will probably add 4 to get to 12. That will prevent a raid for the time being. Maybe the ACC gets proactive.

Chaos is good.

No they will not...In the current contract ESPN has a clause that they can renegotiate the contract if teams leave the conference. They put this in as a result of the chatter of Texas leaving the last time. Without the OU/Texas in the B12 it is on the same level as the AAC so it makes sense for the AAC to try and make a move.

That would kick off the race to 16 for the other P5 conferences. The ACC could add one, and the Big10 could add two, but there's no way the Big"12" would be adding 8 teams. It will be the end for the remaining teams in the Big12.

I'd say invite Iowa State, Texas Tech, Kansas State, and Baylor. I'd say Oklahoma State and Kansas too...but I think the PAC might try and approaching them...otherwise they are worth a call at least.
(I'm looking for the AAC to expand possibly)

A&M outmaneuvered Texas going to the SEC. I get it, Texas was the king of the B12 and had the longhorn network deal on the table but from a long term perspective, A&M made the better move.

Not if the ACC and the Big10 raid from the Big12 as well.

I know of another University in Tennessee that would gladly take their spot. And we have a world-class airport. :-)

RE: Texas, Oklahoma reach out to the SEC. What does it mean for Memphis?
I don't like this conference jumping...it's not always good for the schools involved.
Nebraska had good conference rivalries in the Big8 & 12 with Oklahoma, and Colorado...Missouri.
Sometimes you cannot 'invent' rivalries when you jump conferences. Them joining the B1G was a major mistake.
When Memphis joined the AAC, I could give a rat's patoot when we played Temple or UConn(ed). I just don't have any sort of emotional investiture in those schools.
Now there are some rivalries in the AAC that are shaping up nicely.
Memphis/Navy Memphis/Cinci Memphis /Houston Memphis/SMU are sort of shaping up nicely. I 'care' about beating the hell outta those schools.

I think it has to do with perspective.
If Memphis were say admitted to the Big12 after texas and Oklahoma were to leave...none of our new conference mates would truly see us as equals.
We'd be the red-headed stepchildren outsiders...which is why I favor the AAC inviting the 'best of the rest' of the Big12, as they would be received as equals in a new AAC conglemerate.

If this happens I can see West Virginia lobbying to get Memphis and Cincinnati in the Big 12.
