Anyhow, we should be breaking down doors at those P5 HQ’s, trying to get out of this league to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Otherwise, this stadium and momentum we have was all for nothing.

I truly do believe the big 12 dies if those two leave. What are those other 8 schools gonna do?

Really? Do you really believe that? I’m ashamed of giving up because I missed what was truly, in relative terms, a miracle of determination. Do you think the people that made all this happen dusted off their hands and walked away?

RE: Let's go to the Big 12!
I believe it to certain extents. Things are great for me. Im gonna be at UABs games regardless of conference, record, or whether it’s at legion field.

having a Memphis, Cincy, UCF, Houston come to town was going to bring a buzz back to town that hasn’t ever been here while we’ve played football.

Now they are likely moving two steps ahead. Will this kill the opportunity to consistently bring in the casual fans? We’ll find out pretty soon. I’m not sold on “if you build it, they will come”, putting the type of crowds we’ve dreamed of playing in front of.

The positives to look at: we diehards are living our best lives when all we really wanted was a place to call our own. We didn’t schedule any AAC schools beyond this year and now realignment is here. maybe we’ll get lucky and none of the AAC gets a call up and we get to join a conference with them.

My hope is that our athletics foundation stayed on Mark Ingram’s and #FireRayWatts case about conversations with other leagues and us making the jump, that many feel we are in the best position over 60 of 70 or more g5 schools.

It has not been unusual for NFL owners to threaten to move their team to another city in order to force their present city to give them the stadium deal they want. Perhaps what we are seeing from TX and OK is the same tactic being used to prod the BIG 12 to live up to its name by bringing in the strongest possible programs from G5 leagues - maybe even more than two. The tactic has worked for pro sports owners so it might work for universities as well.

They are gone. Big 12 tried to throw money at them yesterday, and were met with thanks but no thanks. And they could've added those G5 programs anytime over the past 5 years. There are no G5 programs that add enough value for that to happen, and there still are not.

I don't know if I agree with the entire premise of your statement because a lot of what is categorized as power 5 is 100% marketing. Therefore whether U. Memphis, UCF, or UAB the powers that be would make those programs top recognized brands in short order because the networks drive the discussions more than what we think. It's like listening to a bad song on the radio every time you
get in your car. Before long you know lyrics, the melody, and actively enjoy the ride humming along (Milli-Vanilli).

I would like to counter your Milli Vanilli reference. Their songs were good. Whoever it was singing for them were good. They themselves were horrible; they couldn't sing a lick!

All the value is derived from Texas and Oklahoma. Big 12 TV deal is going to be slashed by 50 percent or more.

To use another analogy. You and I can sing "Let it Be" and cut our hair in a moptop, but that doesn't make us the Beatles. Slapping a Big 12 logo onto Cincinnati jerseys won't make them Texas.

No it won't make them Texas but it will market Cincinnati a whole lot more. Do you actually think West Virginia is all that....no but big television revenue allows for WV to become a household recognized entity.

There are no G5 programs that add enough value for that to happen, and there still are not. This has already been explored to great end. The Big 12 thoroughly vetted every viable American and Mountain West member. It was determined none of them could move the needle. This was with them having the opportunity to include OU and UT in the figures. That is now gone. All this means is that there is nothing the Big 12 can do to keep Texas and OU short of raiding big brands from the P5. Which isn't happening. And it still means that if the Big 12 has any members left, it will raid the AAC / MWC and not the other way around.

West Virginia was a much bigger brand than Cincinnati already. And they're in danger of being knocked down a peg anyway. And West Virginia's TV revenue is about to take a monstrous shave. That revenue exists because they play Oklahoma and Texas. That's about to end.

I think there's a legit chance that the ACC takes a run at West Virginia, assuming the conference also makes a move. I'd throw in UCF and Memphis as possibles.
