It’s all smoke and mirrors and “cooking” the books.
Potential big donors I speak to are very much on the sidelines.
New AD has not inspired anyone to write a big check ….

I have been on the sidelines at Alabama, LSU, and Ole Miss (games close to home). I guess the term "big" donor is subjective. Lol.

I have talked to some people in the athletic department. Everyone has said its like a dark cloud has been removed since the new administration has moved in

Richmond has only been on the job since May and has extended multiple coaches and hired a head coach. Getting those taken care was the smarter priority than trying to do the impossible and smooth over 11 years of Nielson. It's going to take years to undue that damage.

Being on the sidelines ( I have also) is not the same as writing checks.
Dix Stadium is 50 yrs old +, it is a high school stadium disguised as a D1
Stadium. Clearly the worst stadium in the MAC .
MAAC center a dump, 70 yrs+ ( restrooms, upstairs seating , locker rooms , etc)
Other than JAR in Summit County it’s easily the worst in the MAC .
It is now one of the 10 oldest D1 basketball homes in USA.

Efforts to find new donors a joke. Kent has no clue , and the few consistent donors that contribute are often treated like crap. I won’t elaborate here but it’s a dumpster fire. The mistakes they regularly make with donor engagements are laughable. Most of their time is spent apologizing not fundraising.

This could probably go in its own thread but here’s something that never made sense to me… you had guys like Carducci, Kurtz and Linder - people who had more KSU history and knowledge of the fan base heartbeat than anyone… why were they never used in fundraising or donor relations? I would have loved to get a call from one of them or shot the proverbial sh!t with them at fundraising event.

Jim. Amen. Perfectly stated. They were never used because they were
Not “professional “. What garbage. Not only were they not utilized , all were let go. New AD had an opportunity to make good, he passed. End of story , my checks will now go elsewhere .

Somewhat ironic, but the former AD latched onto a job at REVELxp which is an organization that manages the fan experience for universities. His account is Ole Miss (per LinkedIn).

From the REVELxp site: "The EXPERIENCE around game day has fractured. How can fans rediscover their PASSION for in-person attendance at games and events? Who will make every EVERY MOMENT more momentous? REVELxp is ready to reignite, reimagine and redefine game day."

Seems to me we are not giving the new AD much of a chance. I don’t know if he carries some baggage that I don’t know about but it seems odd to me that this group wouldn’t give him at least a year before going after him. Maybe I’m nuts but I sure didn’t expect him to rehire Linder, Carducci and the PA announcer. I would think the athletes, coaches etc would have that pretty low on their priority list for fixing the department.

Sorry Burden , don’t agree. History and Tradition. This Administration from Diacon on down , no knowledge or desire to honor History and Tradition . It’s all about money. WKSU, R.I.P. same reason. Used to be one of the great NPR stations.
Jeff Kurtz 40 yrs the PA voice of KSU sports events. New AD had every opportunity to bring him back. He passed it on to a new hire who knows nothing of KSU History and Tradition.
BTW. Jeff will emcee upcoming Rango Golf next week because Golf program has the courage to use the best person available.
I support the new AD but he is on tenuous ground from my perspective and needs to do a lot more to engage donors and fans. So far from my observations, same old, same old. They continue to discount Donors and History and Tradition.

Richmond brought back all the assistant coaches that were cut last year and restored all scholarships that were cut. He got extensions for Lewis and Sendy.

I liked Jeff Kurtz, but I’d say the above were more important to the long-term health of KSU athletics.

I'm reading a lot of complaints but zero solutions. Please explain to us how exactly you want the university to make it up to you.

Lots of great ideas, certainly more creative than the constant t-shirts , beer coozies , magnets, and other junk they think wins them friends.

When they treat donors , fans, respectfully and request input maybe they will get our ideas. In the meantime the AD and his staff are being paid big bucks to generate donations. They need to do their jobs. So far same old rhetoric.

The athletic department monitors this board. Let's take the time to give them ideas of how to improve. I'd be more than willing to compile it all together and email it to them as well just to make sure they get. So far I haven't read any solutions so let's get to it.

Lets go ilovegymnast! I'm going to PM you later to today about an idea.

For everyone else, A good general rule of thumb is the sandwich method. Say something positive, state the negative, close with positive! It can make all your relationships better (work, personal, friends, etc)

If a Division I athletic department needs ideas from a message board web site with 10 users on it on how to improve operation, then Kent State is more incompetent and in more trouble than I thought.

Or from what I have heard about Randale is he actaully listens to other peoples ideas and has a collaboration approach to make decisons. Sounds a lot healthier to me than the past.

Well, we have a university that intends to shape our future leaders in business, marketing and other areas yet have never found a way to properly market their own athletics programs and fully capitalize on various successes, so anything is possible. Remember when Joel hired a firm to run the 90Ksu campaign that then used school funds to buy up tickets to meet attendance numbers which then resulted in his bonus? So they paid money to pay to pay money and the attendance numbers were just a shell game. Could’ve saved that money and used it to improve the programs or facilities.

This board used to be about teams, sports and players. Especially basketball/football. It’s getting a little to complicated these days. Enjoy the games that we haven’t had for over a year. It’s too complicated running the Athletic Department. Let’s get back to doing what we do well. Criticizing the coaches!!
