Flashes picked to win MAC East in football
Does anyone remember the last time KSU was picked to win a football championship? I can't think of one in my 35 years in Kent.

The year after Glenn Mason left? (Though Dick Crum ruined the team.)

I think any of the top four could win: Kent State, Ohio, Miami and Buffalo (in order).

Ball State was picked first, Toledo second in the West.

Here's link to story.

It’s nice to get some respect, but I’d prefer to be back around 3-4 and then hopefully go on a run.

This team is obviously loaded offensively. If we can play even slightly below average defense, we could run the table in conference by winning a lot of shootouts. Prediction: 8-4 (7-1).

Just going to post this here for those interested. Doubt he will make the team, but Isaiah McKoy in the first 4 Steelers practices has been targeted 3x. He has 3 catches for 3 TD's. 22 yards total.

Thanks for the videos, Polish Hammer. I disagree with the one guy, though. There have been plenty of MAC players that had outstanding NFL careers who didn't look like they were too good for the MAC in college.

The guy saying he wants to see what he looks like against better competition wasn't a great point. If you don't know what he looks like against elite defenses it's because you haven't looked hard enough. We played some of the top college defenses in 2019.

Training camp started last week been searching internet for articles about KSU football with negative results. Does anyone cover KSU football?

Allen Moff of Record-Courier has had excellent coverage, though it’s behind a paywall.
Intro rate for subscription is very low, and reading Allen is essential to KSU fans. (I say that as a competitor of sorts. He and I both cover the women’s basketball team.)

Saw today where Coach Lewis got a contract extension through 2025.

I can't fault newspapers for requiring a person to subscribe for their stories of most interest. They do need revenue. Sometimes such stories pop up for free later in other local papers.

Obviously great news, sets the recruits at ease a little. But with even just an ok season I still can’t see Coach Lewis around too much longer. Just my opinion, but I think without the pandemic he would have already been poached. Hope he maintains the momentum he’s built and we get to sustain some of it, as we’ve always had some tough breaks set us back over the years.

It will mean a bigger buyout when he leaves.

Bigger than Geno’s?

Depends on the contract, which I hope the Stater and Record-Courier are trying to get. (It's public record.)

He will go to a much bigger place than Bradley, which I would think would be more likely to pay gracefully.

We all know that it's a matter of "when", not "if". The key will be picking the right person to replace him.

https://twitter.com/PeteThamel/status/14...20193?s=20

According to Pete Thamel it comes with a big raise.

"Sources: Kent State has agreed to a contract extension with coach Sean Lewis through the 2025 season. It includes a pay raise and also a significant commitment to the program that puts the staff salary pool in the top-third of the league."

"Lewis' contract is centered on “student athlete impact,” which could include things like better nutrition, locker room improvements and student athlete welfare. The contract is a significant commitment for Kent and an important moment for first-year AD Randale Richmond."

That’s great, and shows an AD and coach looking to take care of others, unlike a previous AD that only looked to take care of himself. Unless the school opened up the purse strings, where is the money coming from for improvements? That could only be through donations. Does the new AD already have some friends with financing?

Looks like an 800,000 buyout.
