Emmert has had the NCAA job for going on 11 years now. That's a longer tenure than any of the six full-time presidents have been in office save for Walter Byers, the first NCAA president.

So maybe it's time for him and the organization to move on from each other. But let's be clear, the numerous issues facing the NCAA aren't going to necessarily be resolved, and certainly not disappear, once he is gone.

Personally, I think the NCAA sees their power slipping away. With NIL and other perks coming, their days of slamming schools with hyphens in their name for things like providing cream cheese for bagels are drawing to an end.
