You just illustrated my point on acccident. Most of those guys peak in athletic ability around like 26 or 27. Guys like Des make tough decisions to come back only because they can play their way into more guarenteed money. But they still are sacrificing a year (or more) in the pros where they'd be getting paid, getting NFL experience, getting into a system where they can earn a job, etc.

The rest of us have prime earning potential that peaks in the middle of our lives. No one is offering me millions to leave grad school. I can tell you what my answer would be if someone did.

Deion Sanders looks like he might be throwing around some duck money. Just got the number 4 WR to commit to JSU.

Sweet, if I'm going to be watching teams I don't care about, they may as well have an awesome band playing in the background, the HBCUs seem to do that better than the P5.

An NFL team is far more likely to roster a 2nd or 3rd round pick than a 5th, 6th or 7th. I believe Des coming back guaranteed himself a 2022 NFL roster spot. I would love to see him on the Browns and be given 2 years to develop. I think there are like 5 protected spots on the practice squad.

Best case scenario would be des drafted by the saints in round one.

We're saying the same thing. Guys who come back are sacrificing what could be an important year in the league to take a chance on themselves. That's a roll of the dice no matter which way you put it. For Des it was a pretty wise decision given the QB class last year. But it goes the other way too. Remember the Harrison twins from UK? They went from lottery picks to undrafted after coming back, and the team they returned to went 40-0.

With Ben Roethlisberger retiring, talk on NFL pregame about the great QB's of the 2004 draft class. Bill Cowher noted they were all four year college players (Big Ben only played 3 years but also had a redshirt year) and suggested all QB's stay in college long enough so their bodies can develop as much as possible.

I get the physical argument...but to me, maturity and mental prep are far better benefits to staying longer in school.

One take away from that Alabama experience was Des threw no picks, I suspect he had ample opportunity to find them.
