From Saul Smith...to Larry Brown
Crazy that we went from having the absolute least accomplished and most worthless assistant coach in CBB history to a few years later having the most accomplished in CBB history. What an f,ing upgrade!!

If he would have gotten Matt Stanley it would have been the only guy he had successfully recruited at Memphis.

To be fair the thread title should be from Pooh to Larry. As much as Saul deserves to be bashed, he was basically only the third assistant.

Lay all the blame on Tubby. And for proof look at his job at High Point. Tubby's High Point is getting destroyed by weak competition. He needs to go ahead and retire.

Tubby retired as soon as he got here. Now he's just laying the groundwork for his son/s to take over--which he was doing here, btw. We dodged two bullets. He would have kept Saul and hired that other one too. Whose name I forget.

I wonder what happened to Saul. I don't believe he has had any coaching jobs since being here.

Somebody describe Saul as a "X's and O's genius" while he was an assistant here. It might have been his daddy but I'm not sure.

Tubby retired right after he won the title in 98. Has been trending down since.

I think he's going back to work since McDonald's is offering signing bonuses now.

I won't have you besmirching Saul's name. I'll have you know he holds at least two records at Kentucky.

Texas tech wanted to keep him when we hired him - for what it’s worth.

We already established the fact that sometimes very smart people do very dumb things. 90% of the board realized that it was a **** hire from the start. Tubby lucked out at TT like he does every 10 years or so. The next year he had Clergeot and a no recruits of note coming in. He wasn't going to perform a miracle and make the tournament two years in a row.

After his miracle season at TT, Tubby had already retired. With us, he got to retire much richer, and enrich his useless kid.

While I agree, in hindsight, that the hire wasn't right...90% of the board did not know it was a bad hire from the start. Most were on board with the hire, at first.

Even the AAU guy that everyone worshipped, was a big Tubby supporter in the beginning. He said so here and on Memphis sports radio, until Tubby wouldn't bow down to him.

But, that wasn't the point of my statement. You're just looking for a message board fight, because that's what you enjoy.
