Greenhouse Villians
For those climate change alarmists out there i.e. leftists... whaddaya know about this!
Just 25 'mega-cities' produce 52 per cent of the world's urban greenhouse gas emissions — and 23 of them are in China
Quote:Just over half of the world's urban greenhouse gas emissions come from just 25 mega-cities — 23 of which are located in China — a study has reported.
The cities that emit the most greenhouse gases included Handan, Suzhou, Dalian, Beijing and Tianjin in China — but also Tokyo, Japan, and Moscow, Russia.
Quote:And, based on the findings of the new study, China in particular will need to step up its switch from coal to renewables if it is to meet President Xi's goals in this area.
At present, China is running a whopping 1,058 coal-fired power plants — equal to more than half of the world's entire capacity.
Quote:The worst 75 cities for total emissions were as follows (with figures in megatonnes of CO₂ equivalent):
- Handan, China (199.71)
- Shanghai, China (187.93)
- Suzhou, China (151.79)

Only 5 cities in the U.S:
1. New York City, US (51.31)
2. San Diego, USA (35.02)
3. Houston, USA (33.41)
4. Chicago, USA (31.48)
5. Los Angeles, USA (26.55)
Total megatonnes of CO₂ equivalent = 177.77
That combined total would rank 3rd overall behind Handan, China (199.71) and Shanghai, China (187.93).
Only 7 cities in North America:
1. New York City, US (51.31)
2. San Diego, USA (35.02)
3. Houston, USA (33.41)
4. Chicago, USA (31.48)
5. Mexico City, Mexico (30.69)
6. Los Angeles, USA (26.55)
7. Toronto, Canada (18.08)
Total megatonnes of CO₂ equivalent = 226.54
This combined total is less than the top 2 Chinese cities combined (Handan, China (199.71) and Shanghai, China (187.93)) at 387.64.
And only 10 cities in the Western Hemisphere:
1. New York City, US (51.31)
2. San Diego, USA (35.02)
3. Houston, USA (33.41)
4. Caracas, Venezuela (31.77)

9. Santiago, Chile (20.03)
10. Toronto, Canada (18.08)
Total megatonnes of CO₂ equivalent = 303.29
And even the combined total of all cities in the western hemisphere is less than those top 2 Chinese cities combined at 387.64.
Seems like all these climate nuts are barking up the wrong tree.
