DeAndre Williams 6-9 190 F Sr. (starter) 27 min
Malcolm Dandridge 6-9 232 C Jr. (starter) 17 min
Alex Lomax 6-0 190 G Sr. (2nd rotation) 25 min
Chandler Lawson 6-8 F Jr. (2nd) 20 min
Johnathan Lawson 6-6 F Fr. (2nd) 15 min
Josh Minott 6-9 G Fr. (2nd) 20 min
Sam Onu 6-11 C Fr.
Tyler Harris 5-10 G Jr.
John Camden 6-8 F Fr.
Jayden Hardaway 6-5 195 G Jr.

Going to be hard to get minutes on this team. I think everyone sleeps on Malcolm but I think he is one of the better passers on the team. A high low with him and DeAndrea with three other shooters on the floor would be fun to watch. Big Sam could get some minutes based on matchup. But I imagine if we don't get Jalen, DeAndre will be playing a lot of C to get the most flexible lineup on the floor. Eight guys listed between 6-6 to 6-9, those are a lot of long arms in passing lanes. I think we could be even better on defense this year.

* Jalen Duren (if he's on the team push Malcolm down to (2nd))

If we are playing Williams 23 minutes at center, we have problems at center and will be weaker at the 4 without him. Dyren would probably solve that. Otherwise, we need at least 30 minutes out of Dandridge and Sam.

Also, we will have to play Lomax more. The other guys aren't good enough ballhandlers, or quick enough to create offense against opponents that play good perimeter defense.

The guard position, especially point, is going to be tricky. Lomax has no offensive skill. Hard for him to create with his size and the fact teams will play off of him daring him to shoot. He’ll play but doesn’t need to get starter minutes.

That is a dramatic understatement of his skills. Alo can be a very effective PG when he plays his role and within himself which he started doing at the end of last year. Alo's problems come about when he tries to transform into Chris Paul or Russell Westbrook and starts playing out of control for his ability.

Alo can be very effective when he is focused on breaking down defenses and setting up others and then taking shots when they allow instead of trying to get his shots and then look for others.

you said that perfectly. I don't know if some folks are thinking of the ALO before midyear. I thought he was our most effective player there for a stretch before he got hurt.

He played well. But DeAndre was it best player.

Think of it this way. If DeAndre goes down instead of Alo do you think we continue to be successful

Not as successful, but with both of them on the floor we beat Houston twice.

We played our best ball at the end of the season without Lomax. We lost 2 extremely close games to Houston and won the NIT. Lomax is a solid player but he’s not a difference maker. IMO he’s a backup PG who should get 12-15 minutes a game. If he’s starting for us it says more about our talent at the position than him.

We didn't play better without him than we did his last 8 games; that's for sure. Anyone who thinks ADDING Lomax at the end of the season wouldn't have improved us, can't be helped. Pure irrational hate is all you have.

Not at all. Alumnus and big fan. I just don’t have as high of an opinion of his talent as others. I hope he proves me wrong.

I bet he shoots better than 50% FT's, which is what the team did.

In one of the games, Boogie-Baugh-Jayden combined for 8 pts, 4 asst, 1 stl, and 1 FT in 57 minutes.

Lomax would have had 7 points, 3 assists, 0 steals, and 0 free throws, in 58 minutes.

Obviously not a great game. Try Boogie’s last game. 23pts 4reb 5asst. Oh, he shot 77% from the line. All in 32 minutes.

Lomax is a good player... Not a difference maker but folks a whole on last year's team.

We likely win the first Houston game with Lomax. But if Lomax is stealing any minutes from boogie in the second Houston game we definitely lose that one... Probably by more points

I wouldn't say that. I think most people are not sure what to think of him yet. I'm glad honestly, we as a community tend to hype up recruits to a level that most good players would still fail in our eyes. Also, I think he and John didn't get the coverage that Josh did or the accolades. The old saying you can't teach height and from what Cody was saying Sam is a big dude.

He is a big. They are notoriously slower to develop. The expectation for him (and most centers) is to produce very little as a freshman and then get progressively better. I do not think people lack faith in but rather are just being reasonable for his freshman year.

I like what video I’ve seen of big Sam. But no way was he 290 pounds in those vids. Can he realistically contribute in Penny’s system at that weight?
I expect everything and nothing. We will see.

Is he really 290lbs? This article has him listed at 235.

235 is about what he looked in the vids I saw. Seems like I read here somewhere he was 290. I could be mistaken.

Right you are. Sam has got a big frame but it’s not Shaquille O’Neal big.

I wasn't clear on the game. That was one of the 2 Houston losses that you brought up as playing better without Lomax.

And I'm not disparaging Boogie. At all. Boogie helped us win games. Thing is, Lomax did too. We turned the corner when Boogie regained his confidence starting, and Lomax was the spark off the bench. Right before Lomax got hurt. At that time, Jayden and Baugh did not have to play point. We had 2 guys for all the minutes.

I would like to see a high level guy starting at PG with Lomax again serving the super-sub role. But if that doesn't happen, Lomax is still capable of leading a group of high potential scorers - which we should have with Nolley, Earl, and Deandre (not to mention Minott and Duren).
