U. of Miami football players to be paid

All the talk seems to be on how there is going to be a race to see what program can "arrange" the best endorsement deals for their players. My concern is more along the lines of will all of this lead to a loss in sponsorship and donation money to the WMU athletic department as a whole when some of that money gets diverted to pay players? Will accommodations have to be made to pay players in all sports? So many potential outcomes - I don't think anyone knows how this is going to play out.

I must say I don’t know the details of what is allowed. Hopefully there are some limits on stuff, how much, from whom, what for, etc.

Having said that, I think the big rush at very many schools would be for boosters beating down the doors to give $$$. I sure hope it doesn’t come down to a land rush to see which school can buy the best team.

Wouldn’t surprise me to see $5,000,000 in donations at a school like Ohio State. I think they are already at around $2,000,000 annual.

Schools cannot take donations and give them to athletes for NIL.

Money has to go directly from boosters to athletes. Schools cannot pay them.

In fact there is some speculation donations to athletic departments may fall off because boosters will be paying athletes directly.

Omg.

And the booster will then call the shots about roster placements, utilization, etc.?
I mean if I’m putting out serious money to a particular player, ima wanna see them featured, right? Then you get serious bad juju team wise. The next guy begins to understand his chances are limited. Then combine that with the transfer rule and you got a whole new world.
