Trinity King and Rebecca Keane graduated and are moving on. Kostyshyn may not make it back from her injury. Everyone else is back including #9. The transfer from Alabama will be eligible and a possible star. This will be a really good team.

Rice adds two more games.
At home vs Northwestern State on Aug. 29 and at Penn on Sept. 19.

Pre-season Poll has Rice at #22 (finished last year at #16).

I didnt realize that Mijke would be coming back. We will probably have the best team ever to play at Rice this year.

Any word on the TCU exhibition last night?

Very informal match with three 30-minute periods. First teams played for the first 30 minutes and ended in a 0-0 tie. Newcomers started 2nd 30-minute period and there was a mix of returning players and newcomers in 3rd 30-minute period...Final score was 0-0 for all three periods...shots were relatively even.

Rice played well in the first 30 minute period against No. 8 TCU. It was a good exercise.

Rice wins 2-1 in the exhibition over Lamar. I watched the whole thing and I'm happy we won because we dominated play from start to finish. But I wasn't super impressed with our offense. Pham looks really good, and then we have the stars from last year. But we could use a top notch forward.

All 3 goals were scored in the final 30 minute period. The first was a penalty free kick by Kilgore (the goalie) after a Lamar handball. That was a nice shot by Kilgore, but she made a really silly play about 10 minutes later when she tried to get too cute in a situation where she should have blasted it downfield. Instead, she sort of whiffed on a ball and gave it up to a Lamar forward who basically had an open goal to tie it up.

But then Pham set up Spaulding with a beautiful cross late in the final period and Spaulding headed it home for the win. Spaulding might have been Rice's 4th best player after Pham, Kilgore and Roelfsema.

Defense is good. Offense needs some work.
