Exclamation Memphis Football To Receive $1.3 million For Florida State Game In 2024
Coach Norvell STILL showing some love to Memphis....

"Memphis football will get a significant payment when they play Florida State and former Tigers coach Mike Norvell in 2024.

The Tigers will receive $1.3 million from Florida State, according to documents obtained by The Commercial Appeal through an open records request. It's the largest amount Memphis will receive for a game currently on its future schedule.

They will meet Sept. 14, 2024 in Tallahassee. It'll be the first time Norvell faces Memphis, where he coached from 2016-19, and the first meeting between Memphis and FSU since 1990.

The $1.3 million surpasses the $1 million the Tigers will receive from Arkansas in 2028. Per the contract between the schools, no amounts will be paid for their 2025 and 2026 meetings.

Memphis also won't receive payment facing Mississippi State in their upcoming games, according to the contract. The Tigers host Mississippi State on Sept. 18, play them in Starkville in 2022 and then have another home-and-home series set for 2028 and 2029.

For recent games against Power Five opponents, Memphis received $250,000 for its 2018 game at Missouri and $200,000 hosting Ole Miss in 2019. Per the contract, the Tigers will pay Missouri $250,000 for their 2023 game at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium."

Did not know we received money for beating Old Miss at LBMS in 2019. That's a nice deal.

I may be wrong, but I'd guess that we paid the money to OM for the game at the Liberty Bowl.

That's either a typo or a win-win! 03-lmfao

Here's a 2019 article from the Clarion Ledger. It says "earned", so I think we paid them.

https://www.clarionledger.com/story/spor...149128002/

Now, ticket revenues were up to $6,785,839 for the whole year, so I'd say it was worth it (especially with the win).

Commercial Appeal Wrote:The Tigers generated $6,785,839 from ticket sales (up $1,608,478 from the previous year), thanks to seven homes games, including the season opener against regional SEC foe Ole Miss, a showdown versus SMU that drew more than 59,000 to Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium and the AAC title game. The program’s average announced attendance for home games in 2019 was 38,815.

I'm sure that's right.
Whatever happened to writers and, more importantly, editors?

We’ve got a solid base of 40k fans which is pretty dang good for a G5 school. Our conference foes do not travel, so we get no bump from visiting fans and have another 10k or so “big event” fans who show up for SEC regional rivals or marquee conference games.

I'm going to say thanks Norvell for throwing us a bone on this one. I'm not going to scoff at $1.3 million.

Absolutely. We don't get the benefit of casual fans saying, "I've always wanted to see Tulsa play and now they are coming to the LBMS!".

We have been top 3ish in G5 attendance for a while now. In 2019, we finished ahead of 12 P5 programs. No shame at all. The opposite.

Wrong decades of football season ticket holder, highland hundred member, and football lover. This was an expression of disappointment in the alumni base and other football fans who live in metropolitan Memphis. It is not an expression of shame at the quality of football the team plays, but the lack of support they get from the area. I reiterate SHAME SHAME SHAME! 59K for SMU and Game Day, then the next week 36K in a game for the regular season best conference record, then the next week 33K for the conference championship and a birth in the Cotton Bowl. SHAME SHAME SHAME!

The fan base is doing fine. Its not about please you anyway. Half of the Memphians used to be SEC fans only. Now we get good crowds. I'm always there anyway. I can only bring me and mine. That's all I'm concerned about.

i have no idea about Keeper- but normally those that complain about attendance rarely if ever attend and when they do they dont but a ticket from the University.

The fact is that the University has been serious about football for about 10 years and our fanbase is pretty goog considering ..

Seriously, though, as I recall, that was the year we had those RIDICULOUSLY OBVIOUS mis-reports of attendance. They could not deny the sellout for ESPN GameDay, but every other game was under-reported, we all suspected for some nefarious reason. So I don't believe your numbers.

When you consider that everyone else is fudging the numbers higher, the difference is criminal. It drives me nuts.
