So let me respond in two different ways:

1.) Thanks to 'At-Will Employment' a person can be fired for just about any reason so long as it isn't covered by any civil rights legislation. This would carve out an exception for people with medical reasons not to get vaccinated (such as allergies) or religion exemptions. Unless you have either of these exemptions - you gotta get the shot. WebMD has a good write up about this: https://www.webmd.com/vaccines/covid-19-...accination

2.) As has been litigated TO DEATH on this board - players aren't employees. They're students. Students at schools are required to get vaccinations at literally every level of schooling - why should this be any exception?

Agree. Whatever rules apply to the student body at EMU should apply to STUDENT-athletes, too.

Going geek but student-athletes are a subset of the full time EMU student body.

Using the term 'subset' indicates are not separate or apart but a part, but less than the whole, of the student body.

That said, EMU athletics, may opt to be more restrictive for student-athletes than the student body as a whole in certain circumstances, usually related to athletics. E.g., a school may take a hands off policy of marijuana usage subject to state law but an university or NCAA may have stronger rules. And certainly they may as far as performance enhancing drugs.

BYU limits how far you can go on dates so lets not act like requiring players get vaccinated is the HEIGHT of requirements.

Not sure of what you are saying.

Since this is JULY and the Olympics will start next week, I wish each participating country would have vaxed their athletes.

Why send an athlete to the Olympics only to get Covid in a high risk environment. Last time I checked basketball, like sex, is a high contact activity.

BYU's honor code has strict limitations as to some of the high contact activities students can participate in with other students if you catch my meaning. wink wink. nudge nudge.

I agree. Those who test + and those in the 'protocol' sit. Roll with the remaining players.

Rescheduling CFB games is brutal. No reason to bail out any teams.

Will Alabama and Clemson hit near 100% fully vaxed? 03-idea

'Players not getting vaccinated can hurt the team' is the only thing that can get these coaches to push for this with their players. I would be mad as hell if a star player on EMU had to miss time because he wasn't vaccinated.

It is 'Fr*cking Friday' in CLEVELAND where, once again, changing names proves to be a fraught with peril process.

Just ask Dr. W. Shelton, fmr. prez EMU. Next up is the NFL football team in D.C.

More "Fr*cking Friday..."

I can not see more and more schools jumping to super conferences. Who wants a conference with 16, 24 or even 32 teams?

If you have a super conference with 32 teams, composed of 4 divisions of 8 teams you have something akin to pro sports.

"No thanks."

It's all about $$$ and the P5 school's scheme to keep it all to themselves.

At first glance I vehemently agreed. Then... I remembered that ONLY 30 teams in the NCAA actually generate a profit. If they want to form a super-conference, I would be all for it. They can deal with the NIL rights and such that come with recruiting those athletes that are solely interested in a professional athletics career.

The MAC, the rest of the G5 and the doormats of the P5 begin each season with ZERO chance of winning an actual championship. One might say such teams are irrelevant, but if so, why do their games get televised and blogs like this exist? I think the super-conference concept will only benefit the EMU's of the world. Just my viewpoint, with no historical references.

RE: Monday Musings July Edition
The Athletic did a MAC Players Confidential where they polled half of the players who were at media day.

4 out of 12 said that their least favorite stadium to play at was Rynearson. Mostly they said it was getting used to the gray field, but a few mentioned the away locker room was small.

Another question was which coach you would play for if not your own. Creighton got a vote and the comment was "I've liked the philosophies and things he's brought to that team, the culture he created."

But who wants a conference with 16, 24, 32, 48, 64, etc. (I'm having fun now... 02-13-banana).

Would a B1G fan be happy being part of a 32-team conference?????

NOW, here is the rub: With 32-team 'conferences' do they ever play ANY team outside of the conference? Would one conference be called the "Eastern Conference" and the other "Western Conference' (each 32 teams).

MSU wouldn't go out of conference to play EMU but might play Duke which is within their conference but another division.

Isn't what I'm describing sound a lot like say MLB before inter-league games?

Or maybe "American Conference" 32 teams. "National Conference" and each conference has their own playoffs and then a "National Championship Game of the two conference championships where they play for the Mark Emmert trophy.

Valid points once again Steve! We have a clustef--k on our hands right now and I don't see that train being stopped anytime soon. I just simply cannot see any way where the talent gap between the B1G and MAC does anything but get wider due to the new transfer and NIL rules. Your supposition with regards to two 16 team conferences playing for one trophy is NOT you having fun but rather a prescient view as to what will eventually happen. The BIG money programs depend on athletics to cultivate donor money and television contract dollars for their existence. They are prepared to compete as if it were for their basic survival, something EMU and their ilk plainly cannot do.

That said, when toe meets leather on Sept 3 against St. Francis, EMU has ZERO chance of winning a NCAA FBS football championship as the NCAA is currently configured. It is what it is and the future for EMU has indeed become bleaker with respect to competing with the larger programs.

For me, however, I will still love going to EMU football games despite the team not playing in the Super FBS. The MAC presents a compelling value proposition of committed athletes playing an entertaining brand of football at a very attractive price point.
