Monday Musings
Due to the amount of conference alignment news a musing is needed for me and you and even steve.
OU and Texas going to the SEC makes will be the first of many moves this decade. If I was in charge of the B1G this is what I would do.
I would get to 20 teams and divide it up as originals and newbies
Original B1G
Ohio State
Michigan
Michigan State
Indiana
Purdue
Iowa
Illinois
Wisconsin
Minnesota
Northwestern
BigTen Newbies
Penn State
Nebraska
Rutgers
Maryland
West Virginia
Iowa State
Kansas
Kansas State
Oklahoma State
Texas A&M (they are jilted and looking for a new home like someone on the rebound)

You then can play 9 or 10 conference games. Be a Leader B1G not a legend.

How does this affect us in the MAC?
The Big 12 if it survives needs to add tv markets. NIU fits this criteria along with Colorado State, Memphis, Houston, Cincy, Tulane.......... So if we lose a team what should the MAC do? Add Eastern Kentucky. The Colonels could move to east and BGSU Could move back to where they belong in the MAC WEST.
MAC East
Buffalo
Eastern Kentucky
Ohio
Kent State
Akron
Miami (OH)
MAC West
WMU
EMU
CMU
BALLS State
TOledo
BGSU..

Everything is on the table for EMU and the MAC Brethen including a return to FCS.. It will be an interesting decade..

It'd be fun if the MAC added some teams from FCS. The Sun Belt and C-USA have had a lot of success doing that. Maybe Eastern Kentucky, Northern Illinois, Indiana St. Schools that fit the geographic footprint as to not stress out the travel budget. North Dakota state would be funny but lets be honest theyd be in the Big 10 5 years after joining the MAC haha.

As for returning to FCS - i don't think that will happen. I think a new level between the P5 and FCS happens and EMU slots into that comfortably.

I would like to add while we all talk about NIU leveling up - dont sleep on Buffalo doing it. Flagship university in the SUNY system - sneaky huge budget.

Dear Friends,
What hasn't been mentioned is the entry and exit fees that will be charged to any school leaving one conference to join another.
I don't know what they are for the Mid-American Conference, but I bet it will be millions for the biggies.

For the big conferences, there is the issue of TELEVISION (media) rights. You leave and you leave TV rights money behind too.

P5 sports is big business. Things are calculated in the tens of millions of dollars.

EMU just built an SAPC - we’re not moving to FCS!

I'm starting to agree with DP. 04-jawdrop

UB is indeed a flagship school, the only MAC school which is. I thought of including EMU but didn't want to annoy the folks in Ann Arbor. 03-lmfao

The next round of MAC expansion, if needed, could indeed look to schools like James Madison, maybe Marshall (again, 3rd time). Maybe E. Ky. (I like having two schools both in Bowling Green).

I'll take that to the bank.

I have a REALLY hard time imagining the MAC picking a school out of another FBS conference - so I don't see Marshall coming over.

I'd take UMASS and UCONN back. I would be really bummed if we took Liberty.

I'm wondering if we'd do better with border state schools rather than going New England (again).

JMU is a really, really good program. I don't know much at E. KY.

Yeah the Mid-Atlantic is right there - so are the Great Plains. NDSU, UNI, ISU would all make sense.
