Yeah, I've been on this board since 2005 just before NMSU left the Sun Belt for the WAC. But I only have a little over 2,500 post in 16 years. I guess I'm slow rolling it with my posts and my rep# is barely 62.

If you want to change the title under your name, click on your user name in the right hand corner of the screen. Then on the left side of the screen under Your Profile, click Edit Profile. Then on the right side of the screen is Custom User Title. There you can change your title.

Heavy water has been a key part of nuclear engineering and has a storied history at Los Alamos... Today ACU, Texas, Texas A&M, and Georgia Tech are working on a molten salt version of a Gen Four Reactor to be housed at ACU. No water, heavy or light. And we also work on the fission cross sections at Los Alamos, detectors for Dune at FermiLab, and detectors for Brookhaven. Chalk one up for the WAC... another member school is hard at work on a key technology of immense value to the world. NMSU contributes key work on the front and back end of the nuclear fuel cycle.

I grew up in Los Alamos and my Dad worked there for decades. I interned there for a summer and have quite a few friends who currently work there. We were just up there last week and currently live in Wisconsin. Hope you like it up there! I really miss it.

The Salt version of the reactor sounds really cool.

Molten salt reactors are scary. You still have to be able to cool internal components. Molten salt is extremely corrosive and reacts aggressively to any coolant that leaks into the reactor. One major meltdown incident in this country and one partial meltdown incident were both due to coolant contamination in molten salt reactors. If they can get it to work though, it will solve the nuclear waste problem. Just uh ... you know ... keep it far far away from me for the rest of my life.

Fair enough GTS. I will say safeties have come a looooooooong way since we’ve had any issues with nuclear power. That said, I can respect and empathize with the view point. When things happen, it gets real bad in a hurry.

But I digress, don’t want get away from this being a sports forum.
