If Huntsville becomes the HQ of the new Space Force, might the UAH be taken as its
new U.S. service academy? West Point for the Army, Annapolis for the Navy, Colorado Springs for the USAF plus the Coast Guard Academy at New London, Conn. and Merchant Marine Academy at King's Point, NY may set up the need for a new school for the U.S. Space Force Academy.

At the very least, AA&M and UAH could develop a joint venture to work with the Space Force to serve its needs.

Those other service academies are not served only by programs in nearby schools, but they are owned and operated by the U.S. armed service that runs them. Except for the Coast Guard Academy which has competitive entrance exams, the others are filled by Congressional appointments from the various states. The school's costs are covered by federal support no matter what major the student chooses (Jimmy Carter majored in and graduated from the Naval Academy with a degree in Nuclear Engineering).

If the Space Force wants to "keep up with the Jones", it might want to have its own service academy. Huntsville has two state engineering schools it might consider for that role.

I think that a service academy will certainly be in its future. However, I don’t see either school will be taken over for the Space Force Academy.

A good proactive effort by the State of Alabama, AA&M and UAH would be to develop the infrastructure and the relationships to make it harder to locate somewhere else. I imagine that the location of the service academy will be a huge competition. Being proactive may help the State’s chances.
