No. And our fanbase would much rather see Tarleton than UIW. I commend your troll level though.
ACU’s football program is Houston Baptist’s without the CVS Pharmacy. Naturally your fans would rather see a D2 school than a program with a fair amount of success at the FCS level considering their short time here! Nobody likes to see their team lose. This of course has nothing to do with the fact that Tarleton State is a closer and larger school with much more history against ACU.

UIW is what we were told ACU would become when The Bible 3 joined the Southland. Maybe if the Wildcats didn’t blow every year this new football conference would look a bit better.

And I’ve HONESTLY never trolled!

So, Boy Wonder what was so great about the Southland Conference that makes you so disheartened about the WAC?

You mentioned Tarleton and Dixie Tech or whatever their new name is. Hmmm both rapidly growing schools vs Nichols, UNO, UIW, HBU, NWern St SE La TAMUCC and Mcneese.

Please explain to me how this arrangement WAS SO GREAT!!!!
If you truly believe this was a better situation you need serious counseling for your state of mental health.
Unlike the WAC, the Southland is a good FCS football conference. SHSU is a football school, not a basketball school. That’s it. That is what’s so great about the Southland, sir.

UCA is a consistent Top 10 team and has made the playoffs three times in the past five years. Southeastern Louisiana and Nicholls have been good sustainably over the past 5 years. McNeese State is a historic program that holds high standing the subdivision. Incarnate Word has a conference title recently and is an up and coming program.

Instead of that we’re playing Big Lie flunkies and D2 move ups.

Better not see any complaining from Sam fans when the playoff committee won’t give us home games! Our schedule is going to stink.

Sammy, I hear you but I encourage you to take the wait and see approach. As I said this move is about the long game. Not to mention, holistically, the WAC is an all around better conference. This move was about more than just FCS football and hosting home games in the FCS playoffs is about who can pony up, financially the better bid rather than strength of conference. For Sam nothing changes. Win and we control our own destiny.

But what would you have had Sam do? Let Lamar, SFA, ACU and UCA walk and stay behind in the SLC? Nah. All the SLC has is Football right now. Sam wants to be more than just a FCS football school. Plus on our level Basketball pays more. Let’s win FCS Nattys and make the tourney in Basketball and Baseball.

Bidding on home games only applies to the first round. As for the other four rounds, the higher seed hosts. How do you earn a high seed?

By winning games+conference strength.

What would I have preferred Sam do? Join the ASUN. They can talk up those unrealistic FBS dreams while being in a sustainable, good FCS conference. It’s also not a bad baseball league like the WAC is.

ASUN would have been a good move for SHSU…might have actually had a chance to go to NCAA tournament.

Sammy H doesn’t get it and will get on board before long

This is not a quick fix, this is a long game that will benefit Sam Houston and the other Texas schools. The year of the AQ7 only buys more time for the WAC to get into gear on the gridiron and it would not surprise me if the WAC surpasses the SLC on the football field in year one.

Basketball - where the $$ is made - will be a no brainer

Baseball is not an issue. Win 40 games and it’s a non issue whether SLC or WAC

7/1/21 - Texas4 Entry into WAC
I saw a few of the East Texas posters express concerns about going west over on AnyGivenSaturday (FCS messageboard).

I suppose I could see it. Beaumont and Nacogdoches are less than an hour from Lousiana on the far eastern side of the state. All of those pines and humidity are a world away from Las Cruces.

When they see nearby schools in the Lousiana and the Southeast that share a common culture. It's SEC country and flying to Seattle, California and Utah seems crazy.

RE: 7/1/21 - Texas4 Entry into WAC
Well, after this coming season, competing in the WAC in such a place as Cedar City, Utah (elevation: 5,847) will be a different experience for the Texas 4. Southern Utah will have the advantage of high attitude and thinner air. Likewise, the Utah schools could struggle with the humidity of east Texas in the fall.

There will definitely be different environmental conditions at each WAC school. The Westcoast weather of Seattle WA, and Riverside, CA. The high desert (dry air) of places like Phoenix, AZ, St. George UT and Las Cruces, NM. The altitude of Cedar City, Utah, Orem, Utah, and Las Cruces, NM. The humidity of East Texas in places like Edinburg, Huntsville, Nacogdoches, and Beaumont.

Don't forget, especially in football that the Texas 4 football players would be used to practicing in the heat and humidity. I see that being a bigger advantage, though it is close.

Overall other than baseball, softball, track and field and football I can't really imagine the environment other than elevation having much if any affect on the visiting athletes

ACU has played both Air Force and Colorado State since moving to D1. I went to both games and could definitely tell a difference just walking around. Elevation matters.

Done. I messaged Phantom. I’m a long time University of Georgia fan and couldn’t bring myself to ask a favor of anyone with a screen name of Georgia Tech Swagger. He must be delusional. Tech hasn’t had much reason to swagger about in athletics in the past 25 years or so.

Here is my reply to Oscars PM:

I requested a couple week ago for the forums to be added. Not sure why they haven't. I don't have the ability to add forums. I'll bug GTS more on Tuesday, after the holiday weekend. Sorry they are not up sooner.

As far as the Lamar Forum, "Big Red Insider," I cannot get to it anymore because my Norton antivirus software says it is a dangerous site. They do have a presence on Facebook though.

Yes, it was such a GOOD Conference that the Texas 4 plus UCA was tired carrying all the weight of the dead beats. UCA is thrilled to be shed of the SLC. UIW and Houston Baptist football facilities wouldn’t even be considered GOOD for 4A High Schools. Neither program could draw flies with dead carcasses even in large metro areas. Neither program will be any different a decade from now. There is a reason the WAC snubbed UIW.

Oh yes D2 Flunkie trashed SFA in Nacogdoches.

And, Lousiana schools can’t even afford to repair main campus buildings much less enhance their Athletics. I knew a Nicholls Athlete and she told me that have to be pimped out a couple times a month for fundraising. She transferred. Football facilities are atrocious.

You are very short sighted if you believe this conference was going to be viable moving forward.

I never called Tarleton a “D2 Flunkie”. If you’re transitioning to D1, you’re not exactly a “D2 Flunkie”. I do have to ask though, is there something in the trophy case up at TSU commemorating that win over SFA? I don’t think I’ve ever heard a bunch brag about a win over SFA as I have from Tarleton fans. That program has won 14 conference games in the last five years. What’s next, an “Almost beat McNeese in 2021” plaque?

I get it, the LA schools don’t spend much. But maybe Nicholls isn’t the best example to use, considering they’re in the midst of building an $8 million end zone complex.

You can say whatever you want about the Louisiana schools. But you still won’t convince me and others in the SHSU fanbase that replacing longtime rivals and similar institutions for a hodgepodge group of Western schools is a good thing. And you definitely won’t convince me that the WAC is a better option than the ASUN, who had interest in the Texas 4. And don’t even start with the WAC/FBS talk, because that’s not happening any time soon.

Yeah, but under the currently FBS bylaws, it will NEVER happen being part of the ASUN. The only route into the FBS runs though the WAC or the other G5 conferences. A move to the ASUN from the Southland would be strictly a lateral football move.

Agreed and I believe it is that carrot that the WAC dangled before the Texas 4 and SUU that convinced those institutions to join. Which in my opinion is why the next 4-5 years will be so crucial. Not for an announcement to go FBS. But to see if there is any threats of legal action due to a refusal to being granted a seat at the G5 negotiations table during the next CFP negotiations. Because if there is a “so called” FBS golden ticket I believe there will be no shortage of FCS teams willing to join the league. Particularly those western schools viewed as being in to desolate of locations for the sunbelt and CUSA.

It absolutely could happen. If the Sun Belt or CUSA needed to add a school, they could invite SHSU, or any WAC/ASUN program for that matter, to join the FBS. So the WAC isn’t the only way to FBS play, although they’re certainly trying to make it seem as if it’s the quickest way. The problem? None of these schools (Sam included) are even CLOSE to FBS ready and shouldn’t even be running these feasibility studies. I don’t exactly know how the “FBS Golden Ticket” works, but if I were the other G5 conferences I’d want no part of the WAC as a whole in the FBS.

SHSU is an FCS school with FCS facilities in an FCS town with an FCS level fanbase. There’s a good chance things will change within the next 10-15 years but right now we’re not ready to go FBS, and in all likelihood won’t be ready for another a decade plus. No offense, but I don’t want to be the next NMSU or Idaho or ULM, in an impossible arms race with subpar facilities and zero chance of winning anything.

The ASUN would’ve been a step up competition wise at the FCS level, so it wouldn’t be a “lateral move” from the Southland. It would’ve been a nice step up in the level that best suits SHSU (for right now). FBS is cool, makes more money for sure and brings in a bit more attention on the local level. But I’m of the opinion that we should cross that bridge when we get there, because the feasibility test will say the same thing it said in 2007: facilities need improvement and attendance isn’t quite good enough.
