The Rockets will be playing in the Islands of the Bahamas Showcase with the following teams:
•Loyola Marymount
•Drexel
•Charlotte
•Samford
•Lehigh
•Valparaiso

I believe Bradley will be playing at Savage this season to finish the home and home started 2 seasons ago. Marshall will be playing at Savage to continue the home and home. I assume they will be playing Detroit as well.

They also will be playing at Richmond (NIT rematch) with a return game at Savage the following season.

Haven't seen anything about Wright State or Oakland yet.

RE: 2021-2022 OOC Bball Schedule
D1 Docket is a schedule info site. They have UT at Valpo and home vs Detroit and Marshall along with the mentioned big games at Richmond (could be a top 25 type team) and MSU. The Bahamas tourney should be decent but winnable mid major competition. @Cleve St and home vs Bradley would complete those previous home and home agreements, but maybe the covid year messed them up. There are only 11 non-conf games with the MAC going to 20 game conf season. So, if the CSU and Bradley games are played UT is looking at just 1 more game, probably a home game, to complete the schedule.

Don't forget a classic Rocket's rivalry game with Findlay or Hillsdale or Wilberforce. Or maybe start a new series with Walsh to show some appreciation for Shumate's development.

Now that sounds like a top ten schedule to me, albeit top ten MAC.

RE: 2021-2022 OOC Bball Schedule
Why is it always almost the exact same mid major OOC schools? Travel distance? AD relationships? Tradition? All of the above?

I remember when we had a home and home with South Carolina and Frank McGuire. It seems we are limited to one Big Ten team a year. Very unclear how these schedules are created. I’m sure it’s a lot of calls and juggling to fill compatible dates.

How about some of Nick's old schedules?
One year was Michigan, Indiana, Northwestern, Washington, FSU, and Dayton.

Our SOS and record OOC has not been a problem. Marshall, CSU, Oakland, Wright State etc. have had some very good teams and usually boost our SOS. I like regional Power games like ND, and love the Richmond game...but lets win in Cleveland and consistently against EMU, NIU, and Ball State for a change.

My version looks like

Valpo
Bradley
Marshall
Detroit ?
@Cleveland St
@ MSU
@ Richmond
Bahamas tourney neutral court 3 games (Lehigh, Samford, Charlotte, Loyola Marymount, Drexel, Valpo (other side of the bracket presumably), 1 more team maybe MWC or Sun Belt based on past fields)
1 more non-conf game probably home (would like to see this be another solid opponent A10, AAC, lower level Big East/Big10, wouldn't be surprised to see a Horizon or Valley team here)

Good summary from other thread...props Pono

One year was Michigan, Indiana, Northwestern, Washington, FSU, and Dayton.

back in the day UT regularly brought in major names to Toledo. I think a few things have changed. power type schools play fewer true away games in general and specifically against lower profile opponents. Back in the 70s-80s UT was a bigger name and had a lot of fan support. We could probably afford the cost of bigger opponents more so than these days. We also had the Blade Classic which enticed 1 or 2 big names each year. Now, those teams play at televised neutral court tourneys instead.

the whole deal is mostly about connections and finances. personally, i think the ncaa would do well to mandate a certain amount of regional true road contests between D1 programs. it strengthens local and regional interest in college basketball and is good for the long term health of the sport. obviously, the Bigs influence everything, but it having OSU and Cincy play 2 road games within 200 miles would help their brand, give alumni and fans in places like Toledo and Dayton more chances to see them play and would be exciting for Ohio basketball. plus, with the quad system for NCAA selection there's an advantage to playing a good, but not great, lower profile team on the road. @ UT would have been a quad 1 game last year and @ BG, Ohio, Buffalo, Akron, Kent would have been quad 2 games. getting those teams at home doesn't help your NCAA resume much.
